At Safe Opportunity Foster Alliance (SOFA) our mission is to provide safe, compassionate, and stabilizing short-term care for foster youth. We keep youth connected to their home communities while prioritizing their voice and choice in every decision. Through timely coordination, individualized services, and trauma informed care, we aim to reduce disruption, promote healing and prepare each youth for their best next step. Position Overview The Youth Specialist provides day-to-day supervision and support to youth in our child wellness program. This role focuses on ensuring a safe and therapeutic living environment while modeling healthy behaviors, assisting with daily routines, and building positive relationships with youth. Youth Specialists also complete documentation and reporting to support individualized service plans and maintain program compliance. Key Responsibilities Supervise and support youth during daily routines, schoolwork, recreational activities, and community outings. Promote a safe, structured, and trauma-informed living environment that encourages positive youth development. Provide direct guidance in life skills such as hygiene, chores, and social interaction. Intervene in crises using trauma-informed approaches, supporting youth through conflict resolution and emotional regulation. Complete required documentation, including incident reports, bed checks, and daily progress notes. Escort youth to off-site appointments, recreational events, and other scheduled activities. Participate in group activities, recreational sports, and life-skills programming. Assist in emergency situations, including administering First Aid/CPR and supporting evacuation procedures. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professional behavior, empathy, and respect. Qualifications Minimum age of 21 years with a high school diploma or GED . Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with developmental/behavioral needs preferred but not required. Knowledge of child and adolescent development and interest in trauma-informed care. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations. Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills. Must meet state requirements for background checks, drug screening, and hold a valid Ohio driver's license with insurable driving record. Training Provided SOFA provides comprehensive training to all staff, including: First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response Procedures Trauma-Informed Care & Crisis De-Escalation (Ukeru & CPI models) Ongoing trainings through e-learning platform at hire and throughout employment. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within first year of employment. Confidentiality, HIPAA, and mandated reporting standards.
