The Youth Specialist works with the programs manager, site coordinators, education specialist, sub contracted teaching artists/culinary artists/fitness/dance/martial arts instructors, volunteers, and families to deliver a high-quality program. The Youth Specialist is responsible for leading their assigned group of youth through structured arts, educational and enrichment programming. Youth Specialist are responsible for supporting the sub-contracted educators including showing them where to complete their lessons, set-up, clean-up and general guidance for paperwork and locating supplies. Responsibilities Manage a class of about 10-25 elementary/middle school/high school youth using a strong presence, clear, consistent learning procedures, and relevant and engaging activities. Maintain accurate attendance records, activity logs, and incident reports to ensure compliance with program policies. Leading Lessons; Lead fun daily enrichment lessons. When needed be able to sub for sub-contracted art teachers who are sick. Complete and submit a monthly lesson plan ahead of time and submit to the Program Manager detailing all activities that will occur the following weeks during the Youth Specialist lessons. If special supplies are needed submit inventory requests with a 3 week lead time. (This can be done in partnership with with the Site Coordinator) Create a safe, positive learning environment that promotes our core values of focused effort, kindness, perseverance and courage. Motivate youth to grow and succeed ; getting to know each youth, providing encouragement and serving as a positive role model. Serve as an academic support ; assisting youth with their homework, school assignments and helping them develop goals and organization skills. Strong focus on assisting with literary and math development. Serve as a support staff for teaching artists ; assist the Sub-Contracted Educators in the preparation and maintenance of the environment. Assist the Sub-Contracted Educator with the care and maintenance of the program/center materials. Ensure lesson plans and invoices are completed by Sub contracted Educators. Maintain a clean environment ; Take initiative to refill supplies, inventory supplies, and properly store supplies. Let the programs manager know when supplies are getting low via email. Contact maintenance when paper towels, toilet paper or soap are getting low. Assist the lead teaching artist with cleaning surfaces and supplies after each art lesson. Assist daily in the cleaning and maintenance of the space including wiping all surfaces, keeping spaces tidy and organized. Ensure all student artwork has their names on it as well as handling it for scanning and storage with respect. Communicate professionally with families, staff, teachers and community members about the program and work with them to strengthen support for youth. Meet weekly with Program Manager ; weekly check-ins will ensure that all staff feel supported. The program manager will also have space to address any concerns that have come up during the week in a private safe space. Creating a transparent work environment for everyone. Assist the Site Coordinator when needed with Directing volunteers and utilize their abilities to help you deliver quality programming. Qualifications Proven experience working with children or youth in educational, childcare, camp, or recreational settings. Knowledge of childhood development principles, behavior management strategies, and child supervision best practices. Certification in first aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), AED (Automated External Defibrillator) operation, and first aid protocols is required; ongoing training provided if needed. Clearances Prior experience facilitating youth group activities or leading outdoor work experiences is highly desirable. Strong classroom management skills combined with the ability to foster positive relationships with children of diverse backgrounds. Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations while maintaining a lively, energetic approach that motivates participants. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members, parents, and community partners. POSITION DETAILS

Youth Specialist must be available 5 afternoons per week (Monday - Friday) generally between the hours of 2:00-8:30 p.m . / (1:30 - 8:30PM two day a week) (school year) and 11:00-7:30 p.m. (summer). Youth Specialist typically work 33.5 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours a week during the summer, which includes set-up, opening, closing and clean-up time. Additional hours may be available for special field trip opportunities. Additional hours may be available for special field trip opportunities, during the spring youth theater performance, and the fall youth art show.

Pay:

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 33.5 per week
