The start of the school year is just around the corner, and we're looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Before & After School team! Positions begin on August 17, 2026 , so now is the perfect time to apply and complete training before students return to school. This position serves O'Hara, Kerr and Hartwood Elementary Schools in the Fox Chapel School District. Work close to home while making a difference in your community!
POSITION SUMMARY
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh is looking for caring, energetic individuals who want to make a positive impact in the lives of children every day. Join a fun, supportive team where you'll help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for youth ages 5-12. Childcare Counselors are responsible for the day-to-day operation of our Before & After School programs, including: Providing active supervision of children Assisting with homework and academic support Leading games, activities, and curriculum Building positive relationships with families Communicating with parents and guardians Collaborating with fellow staff to create an exceptional program experience Previous experience working with children is required —we're looking for individuals who are dependable, enthusiastic, and passionate about working with youth. Choose the shifts that are best for you, we have flexible shifts for everyone! Morning Shifts Approximately 7:00 AM
  • 9:00 AM (available at O'Hara and Kerr) Afternoon Shifts Approximately 3:00 PM
  • 6:00 PM (available at all locations) Kindergarten Wrap Care 8:00 AM

COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 18 years of age High School Diploma/GED 2,500 hours of verifiable experience working directly with school age youth or An Associates or Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field. Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise program activities. Reliable transportation to arrive at work location at scheduled time

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO JOIN US
Must complete a health physical and TB test 3 letters of Reference needed upon hiring Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter. Mandated Reporter Certification within 45 days of hire (paid training) Completion of health/TB screening and 10 hours of DHS training within 30 days (paid) Complete CPR, Pediatric First Aid training within the first 90 days of hire.
