Job Description

Job Summary The Clinical Social Worker offers special skills and abilities to help patients throughout the organization solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives. Social Work professionals adhere to the professional standards of practice for Social Workers as defined in National Association of Social Work Standards for Social Work Practice in Healthcare Settings. Social work practice consists of the professional application of social work values, principles, and techniques to one or more of the following ends: helping people obtain tangible services; counseling within a specialty as required with individuals, families, and groups; helping communities or groups provide or improve social and health services; and participating in community based and state processes. The practice of social work requires knowledge of human development and behavior; of social, economic and cultural institutions; and of the interactions of all such factors. Social Work professionals work collaboratively with health care professionals within the organization and human services professionals outside the organization to meet the unique needs of patients and their families. Social workers and case management professionals within the organization work together as a cohesive team with expertise, knowledge, skills and abilities that augments and supports each other for the good of patients, families, the organization and the community.
Qualifications Education:
Must have a Masters of Social Work with licensure in Wyoming as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) within two years of hire. At least two years of experience in medical social work is preferred. Experience in hospital case management is preferred.
Job Knowledge and Skills:
Competency using the computer and necessary computer software and database systems: hospital information system functions, the Internet, the Intranet, MS Word, MS Excel, some MS Access and MS PowerPoint, PolicyStat, and all future applications as may be implemented for use in performing the functions of the position. Must have the ability and willingness to learn to master those applications for which mastery does not currently exist and for those applications that may become necessary in order to perform the essential functions of the job. Competency using a copy machine, fax machine, telephone, calculator, and basic math skills. Leadership skills that project self-confidence, authority, and enthusiasm while demonstrating the ability motivate others and skillfully develop and lead cooperative, effective teams in such a manner that reflects the MHSC Mission, Vision and Values. Demonstrate self-directedness and independence in decision-making. Maintain confidentiality. Open to the ideas of others and exhibit willingness to try new things. Exhibit enthusiasm for achieving goals presented for accomplishment. Demonstrate effective critical thinking, clinical judgment, and decision making skills. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills - speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrate group presentation skills and conduct meetings effectively, edit work for spelling and grammar, present numerical data effectively and read and interpret written information, to include highly technical, medical, and statistical information. Prioritize and plan work activities such that time is managed efficiently and realistic action plans are developed. Demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, monitor own work to ensure quality and set an example for others. Adapt effectively to constant changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and be able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. Respond appropriately to direction and feedback. Actively promote and personally observe safety and security procedures, and use equipment and materials properly. Knows and adheres to organizational policies.
