Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a fulfilling opportunity to make a lasting impact on students as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive school environment. This contract position, running from August 2026 through May 2027, offers the chance to work closely with a diverse K-12 student population primarily consisting of 11 elementary, 4 middle school, and potentially several high school students—all in a single, welcoming school setting.
Key Qualifications:
Valid South Dakota Special Education (SPED) K-12 teaching certificate required Experience or strong interest in serving K-12 students with varying abilities Ability to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) Excellent communication and collaborative skills for working with educators, families, and specialists Adaptability and creativity in instructional strategies Commitment to advocating for students' academic and personal growth
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, deliver, and adapt lessons to meet the unique needs of each student Manage a caseload of elementary, middle, and potentially high school students with special needs Create positive, inclusive classroom environments that foster learning and growth Conduct assessments and progress monitoring; update IEPs as required Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, and families Document student progress, maintain records, and provide regular updates Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and professional development
