Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a dynamic Special Education classroom setting, supporting students' growth for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity spans from August 12, 2026, to May 21, 2027, and offers meaningful work in a supportive school environment. You'll work approximately 39 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:40 am to 3:20 pm. Enjoy a paid 30-minute lunch and a built-in paid planning period each day, allowing you the time and flexibility to prepare and recharge. Responsibilities include teaching a blend of core subjects such as math, reading, science, and social studies in a combination of self-contained, push-in, and pull-out settings. The position may be assigned to either 3rd or 8th grade, so adaptability and openness to both grade levels are essential. You'll play a key role in managing diverse student needs, particularly in classrooms with significant behavioral challenges. To excel in this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement (PK-22) Comfortable and experienced in managing classroom behavior; experience with behavior disorders is strongly preferred Full proficiency in writing and executing IEPs independently—including setting appropriate goals and managing all documentation requirements Willingness to work with either 3rd or 8th grade, as final placement will be determined closer to the school year This role offers competitive hourly compensation ranging from $37 to $55, with some candidates eligible for travel stipends.
