Michigan Certification for Teacher of Students with Cognitive Impairments (SA) Experience or knowledge of working with Emotionally Impaired Must meet all Highly Qualified requirements for the position Knowledge of effective educational programming for SCI, SXI and DD students (note: DD•students with both emotional and cognitive impairments) Able to effectively teach all students consistent with IEP Able to design and deliver quality instruction to all types of learning situations and to students of all ability levels Sensitivity to the unique needs of students•able to differentiate instruction Commitment and ability to meet a wide range of student needs Effective classroom management techniques for working with students with moderate to severe disabilities Ability to work in a team setting, collaborating with staff, administration and parents. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to effectively work with children and adults from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds Ability to effectively plan and deliver quality instruction in-person and/or virtually, as needed Ability to use Schoology (learning management system) as needed Proficient user of current forms of instructional and adaptive technology Effective use of performance data to guide instruction Sound understanding and use of formative assessment techniques Develops and maintains professional and supportive rapport with students, faculty and parents Willingness to learn new concepts and strategies, commitment to continuous improvement Understanding of effective methods of MTSS and PBIS implementationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional certification for working with Emotionally Impaired Master's Degree in Special Education Prior teaching experience Prior work or volunteer experience in a center program preferred but not requiredTYPICAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Develop classroom programs to meet the diverse needs of SCI, SXI and DD students Effectively plan for and provide appropriate forms of instruction to students w/ moderate to severe disabilities Work with appropriate team members to develop IEP goals and objectives for each student Effectively plan and deliver quality instruction in-person and/or virtually, as needed Provide direct instruction to special education students Work collaboratively with support staff to implement plans that meet the individual student's needs Provide direction and guidance to para educators / support staff Participate in and lead IEPT meetings Ensure that appropriate staff are aware of all IEP services and goals Assist staff in assessing, developing and maintaining individual educational/behavioral plans Function as a member of an inter-disciplinary team providing diagnostic, prescriptive and educational programming for special education and general education students Instruct students of all ability levels using the State standards, District curriculum and IEP goals and objectives Conduct work in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to professional practice and conduct Work to further develop the curriculum and seek innovative, engaging and motivating instructional approaches Function as a collaborative and contributing team member within the Cooke staff Frequently communicate with students, parents, teachers, ancillary staff and administrators regarding student progress and other related matters Monitor, assess and report student progress toward learning targets and curriculum Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning Implements useful progress monitoring assessment measures Effectively uses multiple forms of assessment and progress data to plan•guide instruction and inform the learner Establishes a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students Fosters a sense of appreciation and enthusiasm for the instructional content areas Engages in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development Planning and delivery of appropriate individualized instruction for caseload students based upon IEP goals and objectives, with access to general education curriculum Collaboration and coordination with ancillary staff, support staff and administration to meet a range of needs for each student, including behavioral supports, medical plans, and related services Accurately meets all mandated special education documentation and reporting in a timely manner Contributes and participates in efforts related to school and district goals Takes direction from the building and District administration Maintains regular and consistent attendance Performs other relevant duties as assigned by administrationMETHOD OF APPLICATION
