Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The duties of this Special Education Coordinator may vary based upon specific assignments. Duties may also change at any time based upon administration or teacher reexamination of student or program needs. Coordination of the Special Education Department Regular and prompt attendance is essential; Work with the special education team and administrative leadership to create and coordinate daily schedules of special education staff to fulfill student needs; Supports in implementation of a full continuum of special education services including extended school year services; Assists with the tracking and follows procedures regarding the special education budget and managing fiscal resources including but not limited to marss reporting, special education purchasing, inventory, maintenance of effort, timesheets, invoices and contracted services; Serves as district representative at IEP team meetings when delegated by administration; Assists in implementing due process procedures as defined by state and federal law pertaining to special education students and per district policy and procedures; Provides good public relations and customer service to families, state agencies and the general public in representing the district; Organize state testing needs and coordinate small group testing for students with disabilities; Performs other duties as assigned. Direct Student Support Supports with social/emotional/ behavioral support and response; Establishes and maintains strong professional relationships with students and staff; May hold a specialized instruction group or support service minutes if a provider is absent on a limited basis. Due Process Specialist Facilitate and conduct special education evaluations; Author Individual Education Plans and other related due process documents; Support in maintaining special education data management system; Assists in scheduling due process meetings and communicating due process changes to the student teams; Seek special education records from other districts and shares records in compliance with district procedures in collaboration with special education support specialist; Maintain due process paper files in collaboration with special education support specialist.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of special education laws, rules, regulations, and procedures; Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and function under stressful situations; Ability to deal with and resolve difficult problems independently; Ability to interpret and apply guidelines, policies, and procedures consistently; Ability to process and use complicated data; Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing; Ability to use modern office equipment, technology, and related software; Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of a Special Education Teacher.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required, masters degree preferred; Considerable experience in a job-related field; Embedded training, support and mentoring available.LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATION
Minnesota licensure (tier 3 or 4) as special education teacher or special education related service provider from Department of Education; Administrative License Preferred, not required.SUPERVISION
Work is performed under general direction of the Director of Special Education and Executive Director; No supervisory or administrative requirement duties, this is a teacher on special assignment position.WORKING CONDITIONS
(Physical/ sensory requirements and environmental conditions) This is sedentary to light work requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information through normal spoken word; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, inspections involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.APPLICATION PROCESS
