Job Description

Qualifications/Skills:
Professional Educator License with LBS-1 endorsement or related services equivalent certification Valid General Administrative endorsement Prior Experience in a Special Education administrative position Strong knowledge of special education law, programming, and current best practices including transition programming Experience in supporting IEP teams and effectively managing complex cases Provide effective and supportive leadership for educational staff Ability to collaborate effectively with team members to problem-solve and complete tasks in a timely, responsive manner ensuring follow through Ability to manage competing priorities, meet strict deadlines, and maintain compliance with special education requirements in a fast-paced environment Ability to work independently, make sound decisions aligned with policies, and respond effectively to complex situations through strong written and verbal communication skills
Terms of Employment:
Eleven Months Basic Function:
Provide leadership and oversight for District 100 special education programming including transition program and staff in relationship to special education, 504 compliance, and best instructional, data driven practices to enhance student growth at the secondary level. Assist in ensuring that all federal and state regulations related to special education are implemented by supporting administrators and IEP teams in their work.
Performance Responsibilities :
Supervise and evaluate the existing Special Education programs, e.g. facilities, curriculum, learning activities, materials, supplies, teachers and instruction. Advocate for students and their families throughout the Special Education process. Collaboratively establish long term plans and follow a continuous improvement model for special education services in District 100 in alignment with the D100 strategic plan. Supervise curriculum and program planning for special education and monitor fidelity of implementation. In cooperation with other administrative personnel, approve all supplies, materials and texts used by Special Education staff. Plan for and monitor preservice and in-service training for teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators. Track student enrollment/caseloads on a regular basis. Monitor programming and service needs for students with IEPs to include determination of increased allocation needs when necessary. Monitor class lists and deviation requests and proceedings. Process and monitor DLM testing in coordination with other supervisors. Support other assessments required of special education students (accommodations). Keep current with literature, new research findings and improved techniques in Special Education through relevant professional development. Arrange for special transportation for children placed in Special Education classes not located in their home school. In collaboration with building administrators, support the evaluation of related service personnel and specialized program certified staff and non-certified staff Coordinate support with building administrators to assist in LEA meetings throughout the school year, including transition meetings (8th grade to 9th grade), while building the capacity of teams to have confidence to support incoming students based on current needs. Participate and be fully engaged in the development of department staffing projections based on enrollment and caseload monitoring, including ESY. Collaborate with building administrators and staff to establish and implement in-house transition programs. Collaboratively work with outside support agencies for post-secondary supports, i.e. RAISE, Project SEARCH, DRS, etc. Maintain a regular and visible presence and ongoing communication in assigned buildings. Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Administrator Evaluation Plan.
Pay:
$87,500.00 - $90,000.00 per year
