Valid Arkansas Teaching License Special Education K-12 Licensure OR willingness to complete an alternate route to licensure under guidance from the district and DESE OR enrollment in a state-approved special education program leading to licensure The Greenbrier School District is seeking applicants to be active members of our professional learning community and who are interested in living the mission and vision of our school district while committing to our core beliefs: Children come first. Job Description This position is responsible for providing instruction and support designed to prepare students for current and future success within a self-contained special education setting. The teacher will deliver individualized instruction, implement evidence-based practices, and ensure compliance with all special education requirements while fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. The essential functions ensure clarity on the key responsibilities of a special education teacher in the Greenbrier School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Curriculum and Instruction Teaches District approved curriculum daily Implements school and/or district curricular and instructional goals, including lesson planning and development of instructional materials Uses extensive content knowledge to support individual student growth Implements the school and district's Model of Instruction Implements the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), including: Evidence-based tiered instruction Development and implementation of tiered interventions and extensions based on student data Provides individualized and small group instruction to differentiate for the needs of each student daily Carries out lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences Guides the learning process toward achievement of learning objectives and curriculum goals Establishes clear objectives and success criteria for lessons and communicates them to students Develops and administers content-specific assessments to measure student competency Implements evidence-based assessment and grading practices aligned with district systems Implements the Science of Reading in all instruction Progress monitors student growth (academic, social, behavioral) and reports data to the Student Intervention Team Creates and maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning Motivates students to learn Participates in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives Special Services Provides individualized services in a range of settings, including self-contained, resource, and co-teaching environments Implements evidence-based inclusive practices Follows all laws and regulations related to special education services Progress monitors and reports student growth data (academic, social, behavioral) Communicates with students and parents regarding student progress on a continuous basis Maintains accurate, complete, and compliant records in accordance with law and district policy Collaborates with Student Intervention Teams and other support staff Develops and administers assessments aligned to student needs and IEP goals Instructs students to improve academic success through individualized programming Ensures substitutes are provided with necessary instructional information Facilitates effective daily and weekly schedule among team members as directed by the principal and/or director of special services Professionalism Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis Participates in all prescribed professional development, including but not limited to: RISE training Science of Reading Inclusive practices Due process and compliance training Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and capacity building Participates in a growth mindset culture within the school community Actively participates in team meetings and professional learning communities Participates in collegial and professional activities within the school and district Assists students in establishing and maintaining appropriate behavior standards Follows all state, district, and school policies and expectations Maintains student safety at all times Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities Responds appropriately to emergency situations Performs other duties as assigned Employability Skills Consistently uses effective and productive soft skills with all stakeholders Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a variety of situations Exhibits a strong work ethic and high level of commitment Maintains a positive and productive approach to decision-making and interactions Collaborates effectively within small and large teams Job
