Job Description

Overview Greenacre Homes and School is seeking a specialized Special Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support for students (boys and young adults ages 6-21) with moderate to severe disabilities in our non-public school (NPS) setting. Our NPS is located on 5 acres overlooking the Laguna in Sebastopol. This role focuses on designing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while fostering a structured, therapeutic environment that promotes academic, behavioral, and social emotional growth. We are looking for motivated people who want to help make positive changes in the lives of our youth. In this dynamic role, you will develop and implement tailored educational plans, foster inclusive classroom environments, and support students' social, emotional, and academic growth. Your expertise will empower children with disabilities to reach their full potential through innovative teaching strategies, compassionate mentorship, and collaborative teamwork. Duties Design and deliver individualized lesson plans aligned with students' IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals across subjects such as literacy, math, and life skills Assess student progress regularly through formal and informal evaluations, including standardized testing and behavioral observations Implement evidence-based behavioral therapy techniques and behavior management strategies to support positive classroom conduct Collaborate closely with general education teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to coordinate student support services Provide targeted interventions for students with autism, developmental disabilities, hearing impairments, or those in early childhood education programs Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP updates, and communication logs in compliance with district policies Foster a nurturing classroom environment that promotes social skills development, self-confidence, and independence among students with diverse needs Requirements Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Childhood Development, or a related field; Master's degree preferred Valid teaching certification/license for special education in the relevant jurisdiction Proven classroom experience working with children with disabilities, including early intervention or preschool experience Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, colleagues, and external service providers Ability to manage classroom behavior proactively while maintaining a positive learning atmosphere Experience working with IEPs, behavioral health strategies, literacy education, math instruction, and standardized testing procedures Commitment to ongoing professional development in areas such as speech therapy techniques, behavioral therapy methods, or library services for educational resources Must have valid driver's license and clean DMV record Must complete a background check, pre-employment physical and a tuberculosis test (upon hire)
