Aug 10, 2026 Job Description Job Summary The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech-language services to students under the direction and supervision of a licensed and Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology-supervised Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA assists with implementing therapy activities, documenting student progress, preparing materials, and supporting communication development for students with disabilities and other communication needs in educational settings. Essential Duties Provide speech-language therapy services to students as directed by the supervising SLP Implement documented treatment plans and therapy activities developed by the supervising SLP Assist in providing specially designed instruction and communication support aligned with student IEPs Collect and document data on student performance and progress toward goals Prepare therapy materials and maintain speech-language resources and equipment Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and devices Assist with classroom carryover activities and collaboration with school staff Maintain accurate service logs and other required documentation Participate in meetings, training, and professional development as assigned Follow all division procedures, IDEA regulations, FERPA requirements, and Virginia special education regulations Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising SLP or administration Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities. Performs other duties as the supervising administrator may assign. Job Specifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field as required by Virginia regulations. Current registration/licensure as required by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Experience working with children in educational or clinical settings is preferred. Knowledge of child development, communication disorders, and educational practices. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
