Job Title:
Construction SR. Safety Manager (salary role, per diem offered onsite muti-billion dollar Semi-Conductor Project in Clay, NY) Job Description This role leads safety management for a large, complex civil and heavy excavation project, overseeing the implementation of a strong safety culture across all construction activities. The Construction Safety Manager directs a team of safety managers, partners closely with project stakeholders, and ensures full compliance with company, client, and OSHA safety requirements on a major semiconductor-related project in Clay, NY. The position involves significant civil, trenching, earthwork, concrete, and underground utilities and electrical work, with opportunities for relocation and long-term career growth. Responsibilities Lead and champion the company's safety culture across all project activities, ensuring safety is embedded in daily operations. Manage and mentor a team of 2-5 safety managers, including workload planning, performance management, and professional development. Support all safety efforts on the project and promote consistent adoption of the company's safety principles and practices. Ensure contractor activities are thoroughly preplanned for safety through scope reviews, preconstruction meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Task Analyses (STAs), and related processes. Verify that all contractors meet required safety submittal standards before starting work on site. Ensure contractor compliance with the project safety plan, procedures, and expectations throughout the project lifecycle. Maintain all safety-related documentation in an accurate, organized, and timely manner. Identify and assess hazardous conditions and make clear recommendations to address risks to employee safety and health. Use SafetyNet to audit and monitor project team implementation of the Safety Plan, driving continuous improvement. Perform at least 15 SafetyNet inspections per month with a minimum of 100 observations in each inspection. Prepare, review, and present SafetyNet trending reports to the project team and develop action plans based on findings. Coach project team members in effective hazard identification, risk mitigation, and correction of safety issues using SafetyNet and other tools. Investigate all accidents and near misses, determine root causes, and complete all required documentation and reporting. Ensure project teams have appropriate safety equipment, tools, and resources to work safely and efficiently. Serve as the project liaison with insurance carriers and manage all safety-related project correspondence. Provide safety training to project teams on company, client, and OSHA requirements, ensuring content is clear and actionable. Train direct reports on safety processes, procedures, and daily tasks to ensure consistency and compliance. Manage the performance and development of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards and project objectives. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that motivates and engages team members. Communicate company and department strategy to direct reports and ensure alignment between team activities and strategic goals. Act as a coach and leader who provides constructive feedback, recognizes achievements, and shares lessons learned to continuously improve team performance. Help build a high-performing safety team by attracting, engaging, developing, and retaining talented safety professionals. Essential Skills At least 10 years of construction safety management experience. Extensive experience with heavy excavation, earthwork, trenching, and large civil construction projects. Strong experience in concrete work and civil underground utilities and electrical installations. Proven ability to lead and manage a team of safety professionals in a complex project environment. Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining comprehensive safety programs on large construction projects. Ability to conduct thorough safety planning, including scope reviews, JHAs, STAs, and preconstruction meetings. Experience using safety management systems such as SafetyNet for audits, inspections, and trend analysis. Strong skills in incident and near-miss investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. Ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations and client-specific safety requirements in a construction setting. Excellent communication skills to train, coach, and influence project teams and contractors. Strong organizational skills to maintain detailed safety documentation and reporting. Proven ability to build an inclusive, collaborative, and performance-focused team culture. Capacity to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and track progress against safety and project goals. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety Management or Engineering preferred. BCSP, CHST, STSC, or other related safety certification credential preferred. OSHA 30 certification.
OSHA 500
certification. Certification and authorization by GU and OSHA to teach safety courses to employees and contractors is highly desirable. Experience with large building projects and major infrastructure or industrial facilities. Formal training or credentials in construction safety, civil construction, or related disciplines. Ability to relocate to or regularly travel to Clay, NY, as needed. Combination of education and experience that demonstrates equivalent knowledge and capability will be considered. Work Environment This is an onsite role based in Clay, NY, supporting a large-scale, multi-phase semiconductor-related construction project. The work environment centers on active construction sites involving heavy excavation, civil work, concrete operations, trenching, and underground utilities and electrical installations. The Safety Manager works closely with project teams, contractors, and safety staff in the field, conducting frequent site walks, inspections, and in-person trainings. The role may involve travel, particularly within the Northeast, and the client is open to relocation for the right candidate. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clay, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $76.00 - $86.00/hr.
