Standards Development Specialist I

The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices through education, advocacy and third-party assurances. Headquartered in Portsmouth, NH, GSA convenes seafood industry leaders, academia and NGOs to collaborate on cross-cutting issues like environmental and social responsibility, animal health and welfare, food safety and more. GSA is a membership-driven organization whose members include certified producers, corporations and individuals. GSA is recruiting for a Standards Development Specialist I to develop, administer and maintain activities related to the development of GSA standards, as well as processes related to creation, revision and maintenance of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and Best Seafood Practices (BSP) programs. Reporting to the Manager of Standards Oversight, the Standards Development Specialist will be responsible for the following:

• Monitor, evaluate, and enforce compliance of Technical Committee and Standard Oversight Committee activities with the GSA Standards Development Process, interpreting procedural requirements and implementing corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Set development and project timelines, and direct actions and processes to ensure effective standards development.
• Advise and collaborate with the GSA Standards Oversight Committee to advance standards development and inform GSA's strategic assurance objectives.
• Advance and exercise discretion in GSA's long-term strategy on certification assurances through issue-based planning and Technical Committee convening and oversight.
• Strengthen GSA's engagement across external stakeholders through representation and contributions to external committees, events, and other collaborative efforts, as well as independently initiating collaboration with external stakeholders on issues related to BAP and BSP assurances in support of strategic objectives and continuous improvement.
• Administer document control procedures and systematic recordkeeping to ensure alignment with the requirements of the GSA standards development process.
• Collaborate with GSA Program Integrity members on external benchmarks as a representative of standards-related issues, notably GFSI, GSSI and SSCI.

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree (BA) and two years of related experience in fisheries, aquaculture, sustainability, certification or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Environmental, social, food safety and animal welfare expertise/experience and qualifications is an advantage. The role requiresstrong written and oral communication skills to convey relevant information to diverse audiences and speak on behalf of GSA certification standards and strategic objectives.

Additional qualifications include:

• Proficiency at technical writing to deliver clear and concise content.
• Exemplary organizational skills along with superior time management. Must be able to prioritize as well as know when to escalate an issue.
• Ability to work effectively independently, in a team setting, and with a diverse group of stakeholders
• The ability to work with high degree of professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
• Working knowledge of ISO and/or ISEAL frameworks (preferred).

This is a primarily office-based role, with domestic and international travel required approximately 5% of the time. Pay:

$57,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
