Belleville, MI 48111 Job Summary WFQ is seeking an experienced, hardworking Stick Welder (SMAW) to join our metal processing team. We operate a fast-paced scrap yard where you will be tasked with cutting, preparing, and welding heavy-duty scrap metal, repairing company machinery, and prepping structural steel for recycling. Job Duties:

Stick Welding:

Perform heavy-gauge Stick (SMAW) welding to fabricate and repair heavy-duty scrap bins, containers, and structural metal components.

Cutting & Burning:

Utilize oxy-fuel torches and plasma cutters to cut large structural scrap metal to size.

Machinery Maintenance:

Perform repair welding on shears, balers, conveyors, and other on-site recycling machinery to minimize downtime.

Surface Preparation:

Grind, clean, and prepare metal surfaces before and after welding to ensure structural integrity.

Safety Compliance:

Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE (welding hood, steel toes, fire-resistant clothing) in a scrap yard environment.

Equipment Upkeep:

Maintain welding machines, torches, and hand tools in safe operating condition. Required Skills & Experience Minimum 2+ years of solid, industrial Stick/ARC welding experience. Proven ability to work with various metal thicknesses and types, particularly structural steel. Expertise in torch cutting (oxy-fuel) and grinding. Ability to read and interpret basic fabrication drawings or sketches. Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and physical stamina to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. Experience in a scrapyard, steel mill, or construction environment is highly preferred. Perform stick welding on various metal scrap pieces to join, repair, or prepare materials for recycling or resale. Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to meet specifications and quality standards. Inspect welded joints for strength, alignment, and quality, making adjustments as necessary. Operate welding equipment safely and maintain tools and machinery in good working order. Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines and maintain a clean, organized work area.
