Job Title:
Stitcher Operator Job Description The Stitcher Operator sets up and operates commercial and industrial sewing machines to produce high-quality custom theatrical draperies. This role works with heavy fabrics, follows detailed production instructions, and ensures that finished products meet quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Operate commercial and industrial sewing machines to attach adjacent panels of curtain fabric, sew hems, borders, and other required seams. Cut fabric accurately according to specifications and job travelers. Lift, handle, and position heavy fabric and draperies safely throughout the production process. Complete finished custom theatrical draperies in accordance with quality, design, and measurement requirements. Follow written instructions, including job travelers, safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance guidelines. Inspect work in progress and finished products to ensure proper stitching, alignment, and overall quality. Communicate effectively with sewing leadership, cutting staff, floaters, and other team members to coordinate workflow and resolve production issues. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sewing machines and related equipment. Perform basic machine adjustments and report any equipment issues or maintenance needs promptly. Carry out other related duties as assigned by management to support production goals and timelines. Essential Skills Prior commercial sewing experience or formal training in industrial or commercial sewing. Proficiency in operating industrial and commercial sewing machines for production work. Ability to perform precise stitching, hemming, and assembly of fabric panels. Ability to read and interpret job travelers, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements, cuts, and seams. Ability to lift and handle heavy fabric and draperies safely throughout the shift. Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with sewing leadership, cutting staff, floaters, and other team members. Reliable work habits and the ability to follow established production processes and safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in production, assembly, or machine operating in a manufacturing or textile environment. Background in embroidery or decorative stitching work. Familiarity with commercial sewing for large-scale or custom fabric products. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced production setting while maintaining quality. Willingness to learn additional sewing techniques and machine operations as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role operates in a production and manufacturing environment focused on custom theatrical draperies. The work involves standing, moving, and lifting throughout the shift, as well as close attention to detailed instructions and measurements. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to written procedures, and teamwork among sewing, cutting, and support staff. Appropriate work attire suitable for a production floor and handling heavy fabrics is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Secaucus, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
