Job Description

Job Title:
Store Floater Reports to:
Department Managers Purpose:
The Store Floater is a dynamic role designed to support the seamless operation of Fiddleheads Food Cooperative by filling gaps across all departments. While the primary focus of this specific hiring phase is Order Fulfillment (picking and packaging items for shipment/pickup) , the Floater will also act as a Grocery Stocker, Cashier, or Fresh Stocker as daily needs dictate. The ideal candidate is highly adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional customer service in every corner of the store.

Non Exempt Hours:
20 -40 hours weekly
Rate:
$17.50 - $22.75 per hour • Base schedule for this role will be Monday through Friday, 5PM-9PM. • Primary Responsibilities Order Fulfillment & Shipping (Primary Focus)
Picking:
Accurately select products from the sales floor or backstock to fulfill online and phone orders, ensuring the highest quality items (especially produce) are chosen.
Packaging:
Securely pack items for shipping, following established procedures to prevent damage during transit.
Inventory Management:
Monitor out-of-stock items during picking and communicate with department managers regarding inventory discrepancies.
Efficiency:
Maintain a steady pace to meet shipping deadlines. Grocery & Fresh Stocking (As Needed)
Stocking:
Efficiently move products from backstock to the sales floor, ensuring shelves are "fronted" and labels face outward.
Rotation:
Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) principles, checking dates for freshness and removing damaged or expired goods.
Produce Care:
Maintain produce displays with an "appearance of abundance," culling bruised items and following prep/handling practices.
Maintenance:
Break down boxes, recycle materials, and maintain a clean, organized backroom and receiving area. Front End & Cashier Support (As Needed)
Checkout:
Accurately process customer transactions using the POS system, handling cash, cards, and member accounts.
Bagging:
Pack customer groceries with care and efficiency.
General Tasks:
Assist with cart retrieval, cleaning high-traffic surfaces, and maintaining the cafe/restroom areas.
Customer Service & Communication Engagement:
Greet customers warmly and assist them in finding products across all departments.
Co-op Knowledge:
Explain the benefits of Fiddleheads membership and the "Co-op difference" to shoppers.
Teamwork:
Communicate openly with shift leads and department managers to determine where help is most needed.
Qualifications Adaptability:
Proven ability to switch tasks quickly and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced, changing environment. Attention to
Detail:
High level of accuracy in picking orders and handling cash.
Physical Stamina:
• Ability to stand/walk for up to 8 hours. Ability to repeatedly lift 30-50 lbs . Physical flexibility to bend, squat, reach, and rotate. Willingness to work in cold environments (coolers/freezers) for limited periods.
Communication:
Excellent verbal communication skills and a friendly, professional demeanor.
Experience:
Previous experience in retail stocking, order fulfillment, or cashiering is preferred but not required. Knowledge of natural/organic foods is a plus. General Requirements Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities across all departments. Ability to handle stressful situations and multiple demands with a calm, effective manner. Consistent reliability and adherence to the schedule. Follow all storewide policies, safety procedures, and food-handling guidelines.
Additional General Responsibilities:
Know what makes Co-ops unique and how to explain/promote Fiddleheads membership. Take the initiative to increase your own product knowledge. Develop working knowledge of where products are in the store and/or where to locate information about products. Willingness to learn about and take on new responsibilities. Orient and be helpful to new employees. Set a positive example for co-workers. Maintain good working relations with other Fiddleheads staff. Encourage and demonstrate good team behaviors. Attend staff meetings and staff training sessions. Follow storewide policies & procedures and the expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook. Provide customer service in other areas of the store as needed. Accept other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Ability to properly lift 50 pounds. Ability to repeatedly lift 30 pounds. Physical flexibility to stand, walk, squat, bend, balance and rotate body. Physical ability to work in extreme cold environment for limited periods. Willingness and ability to handle fresh meat and seafood. Excellent sense of organization and follow-through on commitments. Ability to develop and maintain favorable relations with customers, staff, and vendors. Ability to work independently. Ability to handle multiple demands. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, effective manner. Excellent and consistent customer service skills. Excellent communications skills. Knowledge of whole, natural, and organic foods preferred. Experience in setting and stocking grocery products preferred.
Pay:
$17.50 - $22.75 per hour
