Store Manager The Store Manager takes full ownership of the day-to-day operations of the store and is responsible for ensuring it runs smoothly, professionally, and with care. This is a full-time, hands-on leadership role for someone who is ready to step fully into store leadership, take initiative, and care deeply about the team, the customers, and the store as a whole. The Store Manager works alongside other Store Managers, the Brand Manager, and the President of Sherper's to ensure all aspects of store operations are running efficiently. This role is ideal for a reliable, proactive, solution-oriented leader who treats the store as if it were their own and takes pride in creating a welcoming, well-run retail environment. Responsibilities- Oversee daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures, staffing, store organization, cleanliness, product presentation, online order processing, and end-of-day communication.
- Create and manage staff schedules while balancing payroll goals, employee availability, fair distribution of hours, and store coverage needs.
- Act as the primary point of contact for scheduling changes, call-offs, and coverage issues, including stepping in when needed to keep the store operating smoothly.
- Lead by example on the sales floor by creating a welcoming, positive, and helpful experience for every customer.
- Handle escalated or complex customer concerns professionally and with care.
- Lead, support, train, and hold team members accountable to Sherper's standards.
- Hire new team members who align with Sherper's culture and values, and ensure hiring paperwork is completed accurately and promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-kept store environment, taking ownership of maintenance issues and coordinating repairs when needed.
- Handle daily banking, cash management, and basic store administrative responsibilities.
- Attend weekly manager meetings and communicate clearly with ownership, managers, and store staff.
- Participate in local Main Street and community events, ensuring Sherper's is well represented and prepared to attract new and returning customers.
- Coordinate eye-catching product displays and event staffing to create energy, excitement, and sales opportunities during community events.
- Build relationships with local groups, community leaders, and outdoor-focused organizations to help grow Port Washington's outdoor community.
- Support in-store events that bring people together and promote outdoor activities.
- Help drive growth of the fishing department by tracking sales trends and inventory, identifying opportunities, and collaborating with buyers on ordering and product direction.
- Support loss prevention efforts and maintain store security.
- Take full responsibility for the success, standards, and smooth operation of the store. Required Skills & Experience
- Previous retail leadership or management experience.
- Strong initiative with the ability to recognize what needs to be done and act without being prompted.
- Leadership skills that motivate the team, maintain morale, and ensure execution of daily and long-term objectives.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and consistently with staff, customers, and ownership.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, delegate, and follow through in a fast-moving retail environment.
- Strong customer service instincts with the ability to resolve concerns professionally and thoughtfully.
- Ability to create and manage employee schedules while balancing store needs, payroll goals, fairness, and coverage.
- Comfort with hiring, training, coaching, and giving both positive and corrective feedback.
- Knowledge of or interest in outdoor sporting goods-paddle sports, camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, tactical gear, knives, footwear, and apparel.
- Interest in community involvement and willingness to represent Sherper's at local events.
- Ability to quickly learn company systems, procedures, POS software, scheduling tools, and store communication processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Strong visual merchandising skills with an eye for product presentation that drives sales.
- Availability to work a full-time retail schedule, including nights, weekends, and key store/event needs. What We Offer
- Salary of $45,000 per year.
