Dover, DELAWARE General Description of the Position The mission of Student Accessibility Services (SAS), within the Office of Student Success, is to provide equal opportunities and equal access to education, programs, and activities for all students with disabilities at Delaware State University. SAS works collaboratively with University Partners to foster a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive University community. In achieving this, SAS collaborates with and empowers individuals who have documented disabilities by working together proactively to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodative measures. In efforts to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and other current legislation and eliminate attitudinal barriers against people with disabilities, SAS also provides institution-wide advisement, consultation, and training on disability-related topics, including legal and regulatory compliance, universal design, and disability scholarship. Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Essential Functions The following are the functions essential to performing this job: Under the direction of the Director of Student Accessibility Services (SAS), the Student Accommodation Coordinator determines eligibility for accommodation for all students with disabilities enrolled in classes at Delaware State University and ensures appropriate implementation of accommodation plans. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of disability resources and legal compliance at the college level and be knowledgeable about the best practices in providing appropriate accommodations within a rigorous educational program. In addition, they will assume the following responsibilities: Reviews disability documentation, engages in the interactive process with the student to identify barriers to full participation in the curricular and co-curricular environments, and determines reasonable accommodation in order to mitigate barriers and provide equal access to all programs, goods, and services offered through Delaware State University Provides individual and small group consultations on topics such as: the exam accommodation/proctoring process, self-advocacy, communication with faculty, academic strategies and general disability-related advising Facilitates the provision of accommodations and services including note-taking, adaptive technology, interpreting/transcribing services, readers, scribes, etc. Provides referrals to on-campus and community resources as appropriate Supports the Director in the production and analysis of data and reports Consults with faculty to support the implementation of student accommodation plans Provides guidance and information on disability-related topics to the campus community Maintains timely and accurate records of all student contacts Stays abreast of current legal issues and trends associated with supporting accessibility in the college setting; Maintains active attendance at conferences and professional meetings Other tasks and duties as assigned to support the mission of Student Accessibility Services. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of ADA regulations and familiarity with issues in higher education and student development An ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and HIPPA regulations Goal-driven, self—directed, and creative with excellent problem—solving, interpersonal, verbal• and written skills Ability to plan and implement administrative processes and procedures Experience providing academic counseling in the areas of goal setting, time management and learning strategies to students with disabilities Broad understanding of reasonable accommodations, assistive technologies, and services used by students with disabilities in higher education Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Strong attention to detail Ability to relate and work with a diverse population Qualification Standards Master's degree in counseling, education, educational psychology, social work, special education, or a related field Minimum of two years' experience providing support to students with disabilities in a college or university setting Performance Standards & EEO Statement The criteria for evaluation in this position include, but are not limited to, the following: l.
