STUDENT INTERN - TEACHING INTERN REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a Junior or Senior in the North Kansas City School District. Strong verbal and written communication. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work well in teams. Strong work ethic and attention to detail. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position. Summer School PrincipalPURPOSE OF JOB
The position of our Elementary Student Teaching Aid (Intern) is a unique opportunity for high school students interested in pursuing a career in education. Over the course of our four-week summer school program, student interns will work directly with elementary sites under the supervision of professional teachers. Student interns generally assist Lead Teachers in all areas of instruction and support small group activities. Student interns will help ensure that the Portrait of Graduate competencies is brought to life for students and fellow staff members.This is a four-week position:
one week of training and four weeks within an elementary site. Student interns are also encouraged to attend optional training sessions in late May/early June.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student interns may work closely with assigned Lead Teachers in the daily planning and implementing of lesson plans in morning academic core classes. This may involve assisting small groups of students, preparing materials, and other teaching-related duties. Student interns will be required to take an online virtual/Canvas course (eCareer Connections) that will guide the internship learning experience for all students (i.e., How to complete a resume, internship reflections, etc.). Students can receive elective credit for this course.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate, and distance vision ability. This position requires a moderate amount of physical activity.CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is consistent with the typical office/school environment.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: June 2026 Student intern positions are full-time over the program four weeks - no benefits or paid time off are provided. Student interns are expected to work every day from Monday through Thursday during the summer hours of 8:45 am-2:45 pm or 9:20 am-3:20 pm (depending upon the summer school site). Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from work site. •Transportation may be an option in the month of June if a student lives within a bus route for a summer school site and/or within our Central Office route.Compensation:
$15.00 per hourGROW YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITY
In addition, elementary interns can join the Grow Your Own program that allows for students to earn 3 hours of college credit (paid for by the district) through a partnership with local colleges. Students can also offset costs at Northwest Missouri State University (not limited too) within the program as well.
