Sports Instructor Intern / Cabin Counselor - Camp Cobbossee for Boys - Monmouth, Maine THE JOB Cobbossee is a 4-week, 2-session sleepaway Sports & Adventure summer camp in Maine. Check out our Sports trailer here: https://vimeo.com/250980916 Dates 2026: June 13th to August 10th Cobbossee is looking for its final talented and motivated Sports Instructors to coach and instruct our boys in a range of sports. Areas we can would like male counselors include; Basketball, Baseball, Football, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Street Hockey, Arts and Woodshop. Cobbossee prides itself on its Sportsmanship. We have a ton of fun all summer long, but we also want to teach our boys about hard work, competition and sportsmanship. As a staff member, you will be part of a diverse team of young people from all over the states and the world! Our Counselors and Coaches make friends for life and will be free to socialize in a Covid safe environment on our beautiful campus. Each area of our sports program is managed by a Head Coach, usually from a collegiate background. These Coaches will take point on the summer program with your assistance. You will learn a lot from them about coaching and instructing with a range of aged boys. If you play at a high leve;, love sport or have experience coaching then this is the job for you! Each Instructor also fulfills the role of a residential Counselor throughout the summer, working their day at their activity area or sport and looking after a bunk of campers outside of the activity periods. We have 3 counselors in a bunk with 8-12 boys. This means living in the bunks with (and caring for!) a set of campers who will grow hugely from their close relationships with you. You will make great relationships with these boys and entertain each other all session long. You will be the role model for them, that you had OR wished you had had!

For anyone not familiar with the huge world of sleepaway camps in New England, it works as follows: All over the northeast each summer, families send their boys and girls up to New England to spend anywhere from a couple weeks to the entire summer at a sleepaway camp. Sometimes people who are not from the east coast see this as a strange choice, maybe even a mean choice! "Don't they like their kids?" the question goes. Of course they do. They love their children and it's hard for them to be away from them for the time they are at camp. But parents sacrifice time with their kids in the summer because summer camp is really good for young children. Camp (especially longer-term camps of four-to-eight weeks) teaches children independence, self-reliance, and confidence through the teaching of new skills, improving at sports, and living away from home. It isn't always easy. But it is worth it! Crucial to this process are you, the counselor. You become like a family member to the campers in your cabin. In fact, you will find yourself developing really fast yourself, just so you can be the best counselor and instructor possible for your kids! It is rewarding, challenging, and transformative work to care for campers.
