This appointed role, selected by the Superior Court Judges, carries significant judicial responsibility. The Commissioner will preside over a weekly Civil Protection Order docket each Wednesday, exercising authority granted by law to conduct hearings, issue rulings, and entering orders or reviewing initial requests for CPOs. We currently have funding for this position from August 5, 2026
  • September 30, 2027, and we hope to extend this timeline based on the availability of resources.

Qualifications The position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited, four-year college or university, a law degree from an ABA accredited law school (or admission pursuant to APR 6). Eight (8) years of experience in the practice of law. Five (5) years of experience practicing law in the State of Washington. Emphasis on previous pro tem and/or Civil Protection Order experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Must be admitted to practice law in the state of Washington. Must be a citizen of the United States. Candidates with outstanding, unresolved (WSBA) complaints will not be considered. Candidates will be expected to pass a criminal background check by either the Washington State Police or the Clark County Sheriff.
SKILLS:
Candidates should demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate effective relationships with the legal community, the Court, and its staff. Candidates must exhibit outstanding writing, legal research, and analytical abilities. Furthermore, candidates should possess strong technical skills, as limited judicial assistance is provided.

SALARY:
Court Appointed. Current .20 FTE salary (Wednesdays Only) $102.75/hr. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: The primary responsibilities of the Court Commissioner encompass a wide range of judicial duties. These include presiding over various family law hearings such as temporary parenting plans, temporary child support determinations, parentage cases, uncontested dissolutions and legal separations, contempt matters, and family law ex parte proceedings. Additionally, Court Commissioners oversee civil protection order proceedings, juvenile offender matters, and dependency proceedings (including conducting shelter care and fact-finding trials).
