Full-time Overview:
Supervises personnel in implementing procedures in cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, and storing reusable supplies and equipment. The Manager supervises all requisitioning, issuing, and controlling of reusable supplies and equipment. Functions as a resource person in all phases of the Central Sterile. Assumes the responsibility for the teaching of sterilization techniques. Responsible for using initiative and judgement in applying knowledge of inventory and sterilization practice.
Responsibilities:
Monitors monthly department expenses; orders supplies; adjusts inventory as needed. Adjusts inventory level usage for Ster-Pack. Notifies appropriate personnel of improperly prepared package and any changes needed in package composition. Responsible for purchase order requests, maintenance of forms for repair or equipment/instruments. Assists with CQI assignments to include update and follow up reviews. Prepares and presents in-services on current changes in department and OSHA requirements. Regularly performs safety checks on equipment and removes damaged equipment from service. Immediately cleans equipment after pick-up from floors. Overseas the daily management of the Central Sterile Department. Assists in the evaluation of personnel in the department. Serves as a resource person and assists nursing personnel in obtaining equipment when needed. Assists in the interviewing and selection of Central Processing Department Personnel. Makes rounds on a regular basis to evaluate the inventory of equipment being utilized in different units. Collect rental equipment that is not in use. Carry malfunctioning equipment to BioMed. Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, and administration Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions Communicates appropriate information to Director of Surgical Services in a timely manner Documents accurately and timely according to guidelines. Bases documentation on policies. Maintains a clear, neat and safe environment for patients and staff Insures supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner Correctly identifies and uses appropriately personal protective equipment Performs functions of Instrument Technician as required. Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same. Operates computer to obtain count sheets, pick list to pull case carts and check status of specialty beds.
Qualifications:
Education Required:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Ability to read, write and perform simple arithmetic calculations to assemble supplies, and to prepare labels and routine records.
Experience:
One to two years previous experience required to have familiarity with department procedures. Interpersonal skills required in order to guide the work of others, allocate work, provide training and determine compliance with prescribed procedures.
