Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will assist surgeons and medical teams during operative procedures by preparing the operating room, sterilizing instruments, and ensuring all surgical supplies are available and properly handled. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of surgical techniques, anatomy, and infection control protocols, contributing to safe and efficient patient care in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing instruments, arranging surgical supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functional and ready for procedures. Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies while maintaining strict aseptic technique. Monitor patient vital signs and physiological responses throughout surgical procedures to ensure safety. Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures, including medical records and intraoperative data using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic. Support infection control protocols by adhering to sterilization standards and maintaining a sterile environment. Assist with patient positioning, draping, and wound closure as directed by the surgical team. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, trauma centers (Level I and Level II), pediatric units (PICU), and critical care settings to ensure seamless patient care. Demonstrate proficiency in suturing techniques and basic life support (BLS) procedures when necessary. Collect data related to surgical outcomes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements related to operative procedures. Skills Extensive OR experience with proficiency in aseptic technique and infection control practices. Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgery. Experience working in Level I or Level II trauma centers, emergency medicine environments, or ambulatory surgery centers. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for medical records management. Ability to perform data collection, analysis skills, and attention to detail for quality assurance purposes. Critical care experience including ICU or acute care settings enhances adaptability in complex cases. Competence in suturing techniques along with basic life support (BLS) certification. Knowledge of vital signs monitoring and patient care principles across diverse populations including pediatrics. Understanding of hospital medicine workflows, ambulatory surgery procedures, and medical-surgical practices. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
