Grade Teacher Job Description Overview:
The combined 1st and 2nd grade class teacher leads a multi-age classroom using the Good and the Beautiful curriculum alongside competency-based instruction. Your primary responsibility is to instruct and guide students through foundational academic, social, and artistic milestones. This role requires a strong educational background, effective communication skills, and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment. The combined 1st and 2nd grade teacher plays a crucial role in providing strong academics with hands-on, outdoor exploration inspired by Montessori and Waldorf philosophies.
Responsibilities:
1) Curriculum Planning and Development
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities. 2) Classroom Instruction
  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons by teaching core subjects through alternating blocks, presenting unified themes while varying the depths of tasks for each grade.
  • Provide students with opportunities to engage in nature by utilizing a nature table to build cognitive and mathematical foundations.
  • Employ various teaching strategies that emphasizes independent focus, imaginative play, storytelling, and artistic expression.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that focuses on real-world responsibility.
3) Integrate the
Arts:
  • Teach academics through storytelling, watercolor painting, form drawing, music, and modeling.

Individualized Support:
  • Offer additional assistance to students who require extra help, including tutoring or remedial support.
  • Communicate with parents to discuss student progress and address any concerns.
  • Write comprehensive end-of-year reports to inform parents of student growth.

Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Participate in meetings and school-wide activities and initiatives.

Classroom Management:
  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to promote a conducive learning atmosphere.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (teacher certification a plus)
  • Previous experience working in a Montessori and/or Waldorf setting
  • The ability to balance the developmental needs of two distinct age groups in one cohesive room
  • Willingness to engage students in an outdoor setting, treating the outdoors a vital expansion of the indoor learning environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for education
  • Artistic abilities in singing, pentatonic flute drawing a plus
