Teaching Parent Couple

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

Our Teaching Parent Couple position is a live-in position for a married couple. This couple will reside in our residential style homes and are responsible for the care and monitoring of up to six youth in a Teaching Family home in accordance with the Teaching Family Model (TFM) Standards and Code of Ethics and Missouri Residential Licensing Regulations. A Teaching Parent utilizing the Teaching Family Model exemplifies a skilled and compassionate professional who fosters a therapeutic environment by modeling, teaching, and reinforcing pro-social behaviors and life skills in a structured, family-style setting. They demonstrate the following key attributes: 1.

Relationship-Building:

Teaching parents build trusting, respectful, and nurturing relationships with youth, offering consistent emotional support and understanding to promote a sense of safety and belonging. 2.

Role Modeling:

They consistently model positive behaviors, effective communication, and healthy coping strategies, serving as a real-life example for youth to emulate. 3.

Individualized Instruction:

Teaching parents tailor interventions to meet the unique needs of each youth, helping them set achievable goals and providing step-by-step guidance on skill acquisition and problem-solving. 4.

Behavioral Interventions:

Using evidence-based principles of behavior management, they reinforce positive behaviors with rewards, consequences, and natural feedback while teaching accountability and self-regulation. 5.

Family-Style Environment:

Teaching parents create a structured yet warm home-like setting, balancing clear expectations with flexibility to foster a sense of normalcy and stability. 6.

Emotional Regulation Support:

They coach youth on identifying, expressing, and managing emotions, providing tools for handling stress, anger, and interpersonal conflicts in constructive ways. 7.

Strength-Based Approach:

Teaching parents focus on identifying and building upon the strengths, talents, and interests of each youth to cultivate self-esteem and a sense of competence. 8.

Cultural Sensitivity:

They respect and incorporate the cultural backgrounds and identities of youth into their interactions and daily routines, ensuring inclusivity and affirming their individuality. 9.

Collaboration:

Teaching parents work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, case managers, and educators, to provide holistic support and align with treatment plans. 10. Commitment to

They actively engage in ongoing training and self-reflection to refine their skills, ensuring they remain effective and responsive to the evolving needs of youth. Through their dedication, teaching parents play a critical role in helping youth develop the skills and resilience necessary for successful reintegration into less restrictive environments or independent living.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Running and maintaining a home of up to 6 youth.
• Involvement in the implementation of treatment goals and day-to-day care.
• Maintaining and documenting regular communication with parents, caseworkers, teachers, agency personnel, and others who are directly or indirectly involved with the youth's treatment and care. Submit all required paperwork on time and in a complete and organized condition, meeting or exceeding all licensing requirements (including behaviors support plans, progress notes and logs).
• Create an environment of "no restraint" youth empowerment. The implementing appropriate verbal de-escalation techniques as trained in the Teaching Family pre-service workshop and/or prescribed in the individualized behavior support plans to reduce/eliminate the need for physical restraint.
• Model and teach youth general social skills, self-care (i.e. personal hygiene to include bathing, brushing teeth, grooming, care of clothing/personal belongings), and self-maintenance (i.e. room care, household chores, meal preparation).
• Establish and maintain meaningful positive relationships through the use of quality components (i.e. pleasant, warm, supportive, non-verbal demeanor and voice tone).
• Assist with providing a daily structured routine which includes extra-curricular activities in and outside of the home (i.e. school and community events) to promote healthy habits based on youth's developmental needs. This may include transporting residents to home visits and emergency visits as needed.
• Implement the Teaching Family Model as trained, consulted, and evaluated.
• Administer medications according to agency policy.

Document and maintain accurate medication logs.

REQUIREMENTS

 Must be a married couple.  Must be at least 21.  Have a minimum of a high school diploma  Be able to pass an extensive background check  Be able to pass a physical and drug screen  Successfully complete TFM training  Must be dependable regarding work schedule and punctuality.  Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain objectivity, fairness, and consistency.  Assertive, flexible, team-oriented, and able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.  Empathy for the goals and practices of a childcare agency.  Must hold a valid driver's license and able to be insurable by Hope Ranch of Missouri's insurance carrier.  Ability to become CPI certified and efficient in the use of Teaching Family Model.  Have sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of Hope Ranch of Missouri's youth.  Experience working with adolescents is preferred but not required.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Five days, per work week with 2 days off each week. Hope Ranch of Missouri in Stanton, Missouri is a residential treatment center for youth (ages 6-19) with emotional and behavioral problems due to abuse and neglect.
