Job Description

Introduction The Maryland Insurance\r\nAdministration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland's\r\ninsurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers'\r\nand insurance professionals' compliance with State law. Through the diligence\r\nof a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts,\r\naccountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint\r\ninvestigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive\r\ninsurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly.\r\nStaff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers,\r\nconsumers, and other public and private entities.\r\nThe MIA is charged with a\r\nbroad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers\r\nand insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of\r\nfinancial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the\r\nreview and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports\r\nof consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile,\r\nhomeowners, and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market\r\nconduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland\r\nlaw.� The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and\r\noutreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of\r\nindividual consumers annually.\r\n GRADE 21\r\n
LOCATION OF POSITION
Baltimore City or Hybrid (between office and telework)\r\n\r\n\r\n Main Purpose of Job This position manages all aspects of market conduct examinations and investigations involving life and health insurance companies and other licensees operating in the state of Maryland. The Chief Examiner oversees the senior examiners and examiners. This position is responsible for working with the Market Analysis Unit to select companies to be examined and to determine the type of market conduct continuum action to be performed utilizing guidelines contained in the NAIC Market Regulation Handbook for the examination of life and health insurance companies and other licensees. In addition, the Chief Examiner oversees and schedules appropriate market conduct investigations and exams necessitated by market trends, emerging compliance issues, and/or complaints.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an\r\naccredited four-year college or\r\nuniversity�and�seven�years�of life and health insurance experience�as an underwriter, claims adjuster, insurance\r\nproducer, insurance regulator, or related profession,�which\r\nincludes�two�years of supervisory or management experience.� \r\nOR\r\nHigh school diploma or\r\nGED�and�eleven�years�of life and health insurance\r\nexperience as�an underwriter, claims adjuster, insurance producer,\r\ninsurance regulator, or related profession, which includes two years of\r\nsupervisory or management experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Possession of a\r\nCertified Insurance Examiner (CIE), Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE), Market\r\nConduct Management (MCM), Associate Professional in Insurance Regulation or\r\nrelated professional designation.�\r\n
