Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University seeks a highly computational Postdoctoral Fellow to design and implement real-time, photorealistic digital twin environments within the Ubicquia Innovation Center for Intelligent Infrastructure (UICII). This Postdoctoral Fellow position is a 12-month appointment and has the potential for renewal contingent upon performance and funding. UICII advances production-scale intelligent infrastructure systems deployed across operational campus- and city-scale environments in partnership with municipal and industry collaborators. These deployments generate live data streams and provide a unique foundation for infrastructure-backed digital twins. This position emphasizes real-time rendering, engine-level architecture, and scalable interactive systems for urban-scale environments. Position Responsibilities + Architect and implement large-scale, real-time digital twin environments + Design rendering pipelines for photorealistic urban scenes at campus and district scale + Develop interactive systems using Unreal Engine or Unity (final platform selection is open) + Integrate live infrastructure telemetry into real-time visualization environments + Optimize scene graphs, memory management, asset streaming, and runtime performance + Contribute to research proposals and peer-reviewed publications Generative AI Integration + Generative scene synthesis and procedural world-building + AI-assisted asset creation and semantic scene enrichment + Synthetic data generation for perception and simulation + Embedding real-time inference within rendering pipelines
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Visual Computing, Interactive Media, or related field
  • Strong C++ and/or C# programming expertise
  • Demonstrated experience building complex environments in Unreal or Unity
  • Deep understanding of real-time rendering architectures and performance optimization
  • Experience designing scalable interactive systems
  • Strong computational background Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with GPU programming, shaders, or advanced rendering techniques
  • Experience integrating external APIs or live data streams
  • Background in distributed systems or edge-to-cloud architectures
  • Experience deploying AI models within interactive engines
