Job Description

Software/AI Engineering Internship or Co-op (Summer/Fall 2027) Hypertherm Software Engineers think outside the box and bring new ideas to life. As a design/build company, our Engineers are hands-on and focused on continuous improvement, helping to make industrial cutting more accurate, cost-effective, and safe for our customers . We are seeking an enthusiastic software engineering co-op or intern student to help teams strengthen their DevSecOps posture, adopt modern AI practices, and improve software quality across our engineering organization. In this role, you will work with experienced engineers to explore and apply the latest technologies in automation, secure development, AI-assisted engineering, and quality improvement. You will contribute to practical initiatives that make software delivery safer, faster, and more reliable. This may include improving development workflows, building scripts and tools, experimenting with AI-enabled engineering practices, and supporting teams as they modernize how they design, build, test, and deliver software.
Responsibilities The responsibilities may include:
Support DevSecOps improvement initiatives, including secure coding practices, CI/CD enhancements, automation, and development workflow improvements Research, prototype, and evaluate modern AI tools and practices that can improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing Assist with quality improvement efforts such as automated testing, static analysis, code review support, defect prevention, and engineering metrics Develop scripts, utilities, and integrations to automate repetitive engineering tasks and improve team efficiency Contribute to software development activities using technologies such as scripting languages, .NET, and C++ Collaborate with software, quality, security, and operations stakeholders to understand team needs and deliver practical improvements Document findings, recommendations, prototypes, and implementation guidance so teams can adopt new practices effectively Education Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, AI, or a related field Desired Knowledge/Skills and Experience Experience with scripting for automation, tooling, or workflow improvement Familiarity with .NET development Familiarity with C++ development Interest in DevSecOps, secure software development, CI/CD, automated testing, and software quality practices Exposure to modern AI tools, AI-assisted development, or prompt engineering through coursework, personal projects, or work experience Ability to learn new technologies quickly and evaluate how they can be applied in a real engineering environment Soft Skills Curiosity to explore emerging AI, software engineering, security, and quality practices Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset Clear communication and documentation skills Collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary engineering teams Practical mindset focused on delivering improvements that teams can adopt and sustain This role will help you gain hands-on experience improving modern software engineering practices in an enterprise environment. Youʼll receive mentorship from experienced engineers and have opportunities to contribute to meaningful improvements in DevSecOps, AI adoption, automation, and software quality.
Location:
Ability to work onsite is heavily preferred, as this allows our interns to experience a full cultural immersion in our Company. Primary location for interns is Hanover and Lebanon, NH.
