VMG is seeking two (2) Senior Bioinformatics Scientists to support the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). This position provides advanced bioinformatics, computational biology, and statistical analysis support to accelerate biomedical and environmental health research. The Senior Bioinformatics Scientist will independently develop computational workflows, analyze complex genomic and population-based datasets, collaborate with multidisciplinary scientific teams, and provide technical leadership in the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing and multi-omics data supporting NIEHS research initiatives. Key Responsibilities Independently provide advanced bioinformatics and computational biology support for NIEHS research programs. Analyze and interpret large-scale genomic, epidemiologic, and population-based datasets to support biological discovery. Perform next-generation sequencing (NGS) analyses, including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, miRNA-Seq, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), microarray, microbiome, and multi-omics analyses. Develop, optimize, and maintain computational workflows, pipelines, algorithms, scripts, and custom software applications supporting genomic research. Conduct quality control, validation, statistical analyses, and interpretation of genomic and population genomics datasets. Collaborate with biologists, statisticians, epidemiologists, and computational scientists to develop analytical models and interpret experimental findings. Support experimental design by developing computational approaches for data integration, genome analysis, and meta-genomic studies. Prepare publication-quality figures, graphics, technical reports, scientific documentation, and written descriptions of analytical methods. Present research findings during laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and professional presentations. Train researchers and laboratory staff in bioinformatics software, statistical applications, computational tools, and analytical best practices. Develop training materials, tutorials, and educational resources supporting bioinformatics methodologies. Support high-performance computing environments and evaluate commercial and open-source bioinformatics software to improve research capabilities. Participate in interdisciplinary collaborations that advance NIEHS scientific research and program objectives. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related scientific discipline. Minimum of nine (9) years of professional experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomic research, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis, including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, miRNA-Seq, GWAS, microarray analysis, microbiome analysis, phylogenetic analysis, and multi-omics integration. Experience analyzing large-scale genomic and population-based datasets. Experience developing computational pipelines, custom algorithms, and scientific software applications. Proficiency with R, Python, MATLAB, Perl, Shell scripting, Unix/Linux, and Java . Strong analytical, scientific writing, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary scientific teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting NIH, NIEHS, or other federally funded biomedical research programs. Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and cloud-based computational resources. Experience integrating genomic, transcriptomic, metagenomic, and epidemiologic datasets. Experience developing reproducible bioinformatics workflows and automated analytical pipelines. Record of peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentations at national or international scientific conferences. Experience mentoring scientists, trainees, or research staff in bioinformatics methodologies. Work Environment Full-time position (40 hours per week). Monday through Friday schedule.
