Deloitte Role Summary:
We are seeking a Power BI Engineer to design, develop, and optimize scalable reporting and analytics solutions using Power BI with data primarily sourced from Snowflake semantic views and curated datasets . This role will be responsible for building intuitive dashboards and reports, developing reusable datasets, promoting a thin report architecture , and ensuring high-performing solutions for both executive and operational users. The ideal candidate combines strong Power BI development skills with deep expertise in DAX, DirectQuery, performance optimization, and cross-functional collaboration across business and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, scorecards, and reports in Power BI for executive and operational users Build and manage reusable datasets/semantic models that support a scalable thin report architecture across reporting use cases Translate business requirements into clear, intuitive, and actionable visualizations aligned to agreed KPIs and business definitions Develop advanced DAX measures , calculated logic, and KPIs, including time intelligence such as YTD, MTD, and rolling-period metrics Design Power BI solutions using DirectQuery for large-scale datasets and leverage composite models where appropriate Optimize report, dataset, and query performance using tools such as Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, and model optimization techniques Reduce model complexity and improve scalability by pushing appropriate transformations and logic upstream into Snowflake Partner with data engineers and semantic/modeling teams to align Power BI solutions with governed source data, reusable business logic, and performance standards Ensure reports and datasets are designed with appropriate consideration for role-based access, row-level security, and governed data consumption Support production reporting environments by troubleshooting report failures, refresh issues, data discrepancies, and performance bottlenecks Communicate insights, constraints, and solution trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Business, or a related field 5-8 years of experience in Power BI development, BI engineering, analytics engineering, or a related discipline Strong hands-on experience building Power BI dashboards, reports, and reusable semantic models/datasets Advanced experience with DAX , including complex measures, KPI logic, and time intelligence calculations Experience designing for DirectQuery and large-scale data environments, with strong understanding of when to use Import vs. DirectQuery vs. composite models Strong understanding of Power BI performance optimization , including model design, query tuning, and diagnostic tooling Experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms as a source for Power BI solutions Understanding of thin report architecture , reusable data models, and governed reporting design principles Familiarity with role-based access control, row-level security, and secure report/data access patterns Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across business users, engineers, QA teams, and product managers
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with curated business-facing semantic layers Experience collaborating with metadata/governance teams to align reporting assets to standardized definitions and trusted data sources Familiarity with enterprise reporting standards, dashboard UX best practices, and executive visualization design Knowledge of SQL and ability to work closely with upstream engineering teams to improve source performance and data readiness Experience working in agile, cross-functional delivery teams supporting enterprise analytics platforms
