Job Description

Data Visualization Engineer Role Overview Seeking a highly skilled Data Visualization Engineer with strong technical depth and design intuition. This role focuses on building interactive dashboards, insight‑driven visual narratives, and high‑performance BI solutions that make complex data clear, actionable, and trusted across the organization. Core Responsibilities Build interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations that clearly communicate metrics, trends, and insights Translate business questions and KPIs into effective visual stories Select appropriate visualization types, tools, and design patterns Connect BI tools to enterprise data sources (cloud warehouses, relational DBs, APIs, files) Develop and optimize data models, semantic layers, and calculated metrics Apply best practices in layout, color, typography, accessibility (WCAG), and UX Maintain visualization standards, templates, and style guides Improve dashboard performance through query tuning, caching, and efficient modeling Collaborate with data engineers to ensure data quality and reliability Support self‑service analytics with documentation, training, and reusable templates Conduct peer reviews and provide technical guidance within the BI environment Required Qualifications 6+ years in data visualization, BI engineering, or related field Expert in Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Qlik Sense Strong SQL for querying and optimizing large datasets Solid understanding of star/snowflake schemas, relationships, aggregations, and semantic modeling Experience connecting BI tools to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Azure Synapse, or Redshift Strong grasp of data visualization principles, UX, and accessibility standards Proven ability to turn business requirements into polished, production‑ready dashboards Ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables (consulting/contractor mindset) Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in multiple visualization platforms Familiarity with Python or R for data prep or analytics integration Knowledge of data governance, cataloging, and metadata management Experience in COE or enterprise BI governance environments Familiarity with Git and CI/CD for BI development Background in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, retail, government) Relevant BI or cloud certifications. Mandatory Skills 1. Data Visualization Platforms (Expert Level) Deep expertise in Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Qlik Sense Ability to design interactive dashboards, reports, and visual narratives 2. SQL & Data Querying Strong SQL for writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex queries Experience working with large relational and cloud datasets 3. Data Modeling for BI Solid understanding of: Star/snowflake schemas Semantic layers Aggregations & calculated fields Performance‑optimized data models 4. Modern Data Platform Connectivity Hands‑on experience connecting BI tools to: Snowflake Databricks BigQuery Azure Synapse Amazon Redshift 5.
Visualization & UX Best Practices Mastery of:
Information hierarchy Color theory Typography Accessibility (WCAG) Interactivity & layout design 6.
Dashboard Performance Optimization Skills in:
Query tuning Caching strategies Incremental data loading Efficient data modeling 7. Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Translation Ability to convert business questions into clear, actionable visual insights 8. Standards & Governance Experience creating/maintaining: Visualization style guides Templates Component libraries Consistency frameworks across BI environments 9. Data Quality & Collaboration Ability to work with data engineers/modelers to: Identify data quality issues Ensure reliable, well‑documented data sources 10. Independent Delivery & Consulting Skills Proven ability to: Work autonomously Manage multiple deliverables Communicate proactively
Pay:
$55.00 - $60.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
