We are seeking an experienced Lead ServiceNow Developer to provide technical leadership across the design, development, administration, integration, and operational management of the ServiceNow platform. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in ServiceNow development and IT Service Management (ITSM), with the ability to solve complex technical challenges, drive automation, and develop secure, scalable digital workflows. The Lead ServiceNow Developer will work closely with IT teams, business stakeholders, engineers, and vendors to ensure the ServiceNow platform aligns with business objectives, ITIL processes, security standards, and organizational best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Platform Architecture & Administration:
Own the configuration, administration, maintenance, and optimization of ServiceNow core modules, including: Incident Management Problem Management Change Management Request Management and Service Catalog Knowledge Management Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Discovery Asset Management Manage update sets, source control, environment strategy, and application deployments across Development, Test, and Production environments. Establish and enforce ServiceNow development, configuration, security, and governance standards. Lead platform roadmap discussions and provide technical recommendations for platform enhancements. Ensure platform architecture supports scalability, maintainability, reliability, and business requirements.
Custom Development & Automation:
Design and implement advanced ServiceNow workflows, custom applications, business rules, client scripts, UI policies, script includes, and Flow Designer automations. Develop scalable and maintainable solutions using JavaScript and ServiceNow Glide APIs. Configure and extend ServiceNow capabilities using IntegrationHub and scripted
REST/SOAP
APIs. Translate business requirements into technical solutions and platform configurations. Review existing customizations and recommend opportunities for modernization and automation.
Integrations & Data Exchange:
Architect, develop, test, and maintain secure integrations between ServiceNow and enterprise applications. Develop and support REST and
SOAP API
integrations using appropriate authentication and security mechanisms. Configure and manage OAuth, MID Server, and related integration components. Support integrations with device management, identity management, infrastructure, and external ticketing systems. Work with platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Workspace ONE, and vendor ticketing connectors where applicable. Troubleshoot integration failures, data synchronization issues, and API-related defects.
CMDB, Discovery & Asset Management:
Lead CMDB data modeling, reconciliation, normalization, and Configuration Item (CI) lifecycle improvements. Maintain and optimize Discovery schedules, probes, patterns, classifications, and related configurations. Improve CMDB health, data quality, completeness, correctness, and compliance. Support Software Asset Management (SAM) and Hardware Asset Management (HAM) processes. Configure and optimize SAM/HAM jobs and support asset data quality initiatives. Establish best practices for CI relationships, discovery, reconciliation, and asset lifecycle management.
Platform Security & Compliance:
Implement and maintain Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), access controls, audit logging, and platform security configurations. Ensure ServiceNow configurations and custom applications follow security and compliance requirements. Review platform permissions, roles, integrations, and data access for security risks. Support security reviews, audits, and compliance initiatives involving the ServiceNow platform.
Upgrades, Reliability & Observability:
Plan and execute ServiceNow upgrades, patches, hotfixes, and platform maintenance activities. Coordinate release activities while minimizing disruption to business operations. Maintain Performance Analytics indicators, data collections, dashboards, and reporting. Monitor platform health, performance, integrations, and application behavior. Identify root causes of performance and reliability issues and implement corrective actions. Establish proactive monitoring and operational best practices.
Documentation, Enablement & Technical Leadership:
Create and maintain technical design documents, architecture documentation, runbooks, configuration guides, and administration/user documentation. Provide SME-level technical guidance to project and operations teams. Mentor junior ServiceNow developers and administrators. Conduct knowledge-transfer and training sessions for engineers, Service Desk personnel, and business stakeholders. Lead technical discussions and make platform-level architecture and implementation decisions. Collaborate with business leaders, technical teams, and vendors to resolve complex issues and deliver platform improvements.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development and administration experience. 7+ years of experience working with ITIL-based IT Service Management (ITSM) processes.
Advanced proficiency in:
JavaScript Glide API Flow Designer IntegrationHub ServiceNow Studio 7+ years of experience integrating ServiceNow with enterprise systems using REST and SOAP APIs. Strong experience with ServiceNow platform architecture, configuration, customization, and administration. Proven experience leading platform-level initiatives and making technical architecture and implementation decisions. Strong experience with ServiceNow workflows, automation, scripting, integrations, and application development. Excellent analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Experience managing ServiceNow environments, releases, deployments, and platform changes.
Preferred Qualifications:
ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification. One or more ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) certifications, such as:

CIS-Discovery Experience with Service Operations Workspace. Strong experience with CMDB, Discovery, and Service Mapping. Experience with ServiceNow Performance Analytics. Experience configuring and optimizing SAM/HAM jobs. Experience integrating ServiceNow with Microsoft Intune or Workspace ONE. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies. Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices for ServiceNow. Experience working in complex, distributed, enterprise, or public-sector environments.
