Job Description

Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) invite applications for the position of Chief of Geriatrics - an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished academic geriatrician to lead and shape a growing, innovative geriatrics program within a nationally recognized health system and medical school partnership. As Section Chief, you will lead a collaborative team of six physicians, four advanced practice providers, social workers and an experienced support staff in a dynamic academic environment that offers meaningful opportunities in clinical leadership, graduate medical education, medical student teaching, and research. This role provides the ability to directly influence the future of geriatric care delivery while mentoring the next generation of physicians. Build and Lead an Expanding Academic Geriatrics Program You will oversee a comprehensive spectrum of geriatric services, including: Ambulatory consultative care through the Center for Healthy Aging, where geriatrics is co-located with geriatric psychiatry, neurology and palliative medicine Inpatient, observation, and emergency department consultative services Regional outreach through both in-person and virtual care across Carilion Clinic's network This position offers the opportunity to expand innovative models of care and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across the continuum of aging services. Academic and Research Opportunities Carilion Clinic maintains highly respected Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residency programs, along with fellowships in Geriatric Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Medicine. Faculty appointments are through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. As Chief, you will have abundant opportunities to: Teach medical students, residents, and fellows Mentor trainees and junior faculty Participate in curriculum development and academic leadership Collaborate in clinical and translational research initiatives Research partnerships are available through: The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC The Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology Virginia Tech's main campus and interdisciplinary programs VTCSOM and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute are located directly across from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 763-bed tertiary referral center and the only Level I Trauma Center in southwestern Virginia, serving a population of more than one million residents. Candidate Qualifications Qualified candidates will possess: MD, DO, or equivalent degree Board Certification in Geriatric Medicine Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in academic geriatrics Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor (or qualifications eligible for appointment at that level) Demonstrated excellence in leadership, communication, collaboration, and program development Experience building interdisciplinary teams and advancing models of care Commitment to education, mentorship, and academic growth Experience in graduate medical education is preferred.
