This position standardizes, develops, and maintains robotic and manual welding programs across six weld cells equipped with ABB and Fanuc systems. Working alongside the existing Program Engineer, this role builds the audit-ready, documented welding program needed to meet

2015 and customer requirements — including WPS development, work instructions, first-piece checklists, and operator job aids that drive measurable defect reduction.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Robot Programming & Process Development Develop, test, and lock weld programs on ABB (RobotStudio / IRC5) and Fanuc (ROBOGUIDE / R-30iB) cells, optimizing path, angle, wire feed, voltage, and travel speed per joint. Establish program change-control so modifications are reviewed, recorded, and reversible; balance programming workload across all six cells. Define which features require manual weld completion due to geometry/equipment limits and set acceptance criteria for those features. Welding Procedure, Documentation & Fixtures Develop WPS and document weld parameters (wire, gas, amperage, voltage, travel speed, tip size) per part family and joint. Author work instructions, SOPs, and visual job aids; create photo-based fixture loading checklists operators can self-verify against. Apply fixture design knowledge to evaluate loading consistency, recommend poka-yoke improvements, and support fixture qualification records (WSPA PC05). Quality, Audit & Training Support Support the weld control plan, root-cause analysis (5-Why/fishbone), and corrective action effectiveness verification for internal and customer-reported defects. 2015 records (parameter logs, first-piece sign-off, PM logs) in audit-ready form. Train and mentor operators on fixture loading, defect recognition, first-piece inspection, and out-of-control response; support a formal operator qualification matrix.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certification & Experience 3-5+ years hands-on robotic weld cell programming, ideally in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume environment, with demonstrated experience on both ABB (IRC5) and Fanuc (R-30iB) for
MIG/GMAW.
Experience developing/working with WPS and AWS D1.1 or D14.3 acceptance criteria; experience with fixture design, fabrication, or qualification. Experience in an

process knowledge: gas selection, wire classification, contact tip/liner sizing, arc parameter relationships (voltage, amperage, WFS, travel speed, CTWD). Ability to read weld symbols per

; proficiency with weld inspection gauges and ability to train others. Working knowledge of AutoCAD / Autodesk Inventor; comfortable reading fixture/part drawings, datums, and GD&T relevant to weld features. Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with an ERP or QMS for document control preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with a heavy-equipment OEM weld special process standard (Deere, Caterpillar, Komatsu, CNH, or similar). AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) or experience developing operator training programs. Lean Manufacturing, FMEA, or control plan authorship background; offline robot simulation / collision-detection experience; FCAW or SMAW exposure.
