Tekla Structures is the primary design and detailing platform for this position. The successful candidate will use Tekla to develop highly detailed structural steel models, connections, assemblies, fabrication drawings, piece marks, material lists, and CNC-ready manufacturing data. This position serves as the critical connection between Engineering, Structural Detailing, CAD/CAM, CNC Manufacturing, Fabrication, and Assembly. The goal is to ensure that every component released to production is accurately modeled, properly detailed, clearly documented, and ready to manufacture without interpretation or unnecessary rework. The ideal candidate understands not only how to model steel structures in Tekla, but also how those models translate into real-world fabrication and CNC production. Key Responsibilities Tekla Structures — Primary Responsibility Create and maintain detailed 3D structural steel models in Tekla Structures from engineering drawings, structural layouts, specifications, and design documents. Develop accurate models of structural steel members, plates, stairs, handrails, connections, embeds, miscellaneous metals, and fabricated assemblies. Model structural connections and components with a strong understanding of actual fabrication and erection requirements. Produce complete Tekla fabrication drawings, including single-part drawings, assembly drawings, erection drawings, and other required production documentation. Generate accurate piece marks, part marks, assembly information, dimensions, weld information, bolt information, material specifications, and fabrication notes. Develop and verify Bills of Materials (BOMs) directly from the Tekla model. Maintain model integrity and ensure that drawings, BOMs, piece marks, and associated manufacturing information remain synchronized with the current model revision. Perform detailed model reviews to identify interferences, missing components, dimensional conflicts, connection issues, and fabrication problems before releasing work to production. Maintain accurate model revisions and ensure production personnel are working from the latest approved Tekla model and drawings.
CAD/CAM & CNC
Manufacturing Use Tekla Structures as the primary source model for downstream CAD/CAM and CNC manufacturing workflows. Prepare and export accurate CNC-compatible files, including DSTV, NC1 and other required formats, from approved models. Ensure model geometry contains the information required for downstream CNC cutting, drilling, machining, fitting, and fabrication. Coordinate Tekla models and fabrication data with CNC programmers and manufacturing personnel. Review CNC and fabrication requirements to ensure that modeled components can be efficiently manufactured using available equipment and processes. Identify opportunities to improve material utilization, CNC efficiency, fabrication sequence, tooling, and production cycle times. Support troubleshooting of discrepancies between the Tekla model, fabrication drawings, CNC files, and physical components. Structural Steel Detailing & Fabrication Develop detailed fabrication information for structural steel, plate, tube, angle, channel, sheet metal, weldments, and miscellaneous metals. Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, bolt specifications, connection details, material requirements, and fabrication standards. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles when developing models and details. Review designs for manufacturability, accessibility, fit-up, welding, machining, assembly, and field installation. Identify potential fabrication issues before material is cut or components enter production. Work directly with fabricators, welders, CNC operators, machinists, and production supervisors to resolve shop-floor issues. Incorporate approved engineering revisions and ensure changes are accurately reflected throughout the Tekla model and associated production documentation. Engineering & Production Support Interpret structural engineering drawings, architectural layouts, specifications, sketches, and BOMs and translate them into detailed Tekla models. Collaborate with Engineering and Production to resolve design, detailing, fabrication, and assembly issues. Review shop-floor feedback and incorporate practical fabrication knowledge into future models and details. Assist with quality-control processes by verifying critical dimensions and manufacturing requirements. Support continuous improvement initiatives involving Tekla modeling standards, detailing practices, CAD/CAM workflows, CNC production, material optimization, and manufacturing efficiency. Required Qualifications Tekla Structures Experience — Critical Requirement 5-10 years of professional experience using Tekla Structures in structural steel detailing, fabrication, or a closely related manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to take structural designs and develop complete, accurate Tekla models suitable for fabrication. Strong understanding of Tekla modeling practices, assemblies, numbering, drawings, reports, and model organization. Experience producing fabrication and assembly drawings directly from Tekla Structures. Ability to identify and resolve modeling, detailing, connection, and constructability issues independently. Structural Steel & Fabrication Knowledge Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of structural shapes, plates, tubing, connections, bolts, welds, and miscellaneous metals. Ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications. Strong understanding of welding, fitting, cutting, drilling, forming, and assembly processes. Familiarity with AWS welding standards is preferred. Understanding of fabrication tolerances and dimensional requirements.CAD/CAM & CNC
Understanding of the relationship between 3D structural models, fabrication drawings, CAM systems, and CNC equipment. Experience exporting and working with STEP, DSTV/NC, DXF, or other manufacturing file formats is highly desirable. Experience with CNC laser, plasma, drilling, beam line, saw, press brake, machining, or other automated fabrication equipment is a strong plus. Familiarity with CAM software and CNC programming is preferred. Technical Skills Strong spatial visualization and mechanical aptitude. Exceptional attention to detail and dimensional accuracy. Ability to understand how a component will be fabricated, welded, machined, assembled, and installed. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining model accuracy and revision control. Clear communication skills and the ability to work directly with Engineering and Production personnel. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or technical certificate in Structural Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related discipline. Advanced experience with Tekla Structures. Experience in a structural steel fabrication shop or CNC manufacturing environment. Experience with Tekla model customization, templates, components, attributes, or detailing standards. Experience with Tekla Structures extensions, macros, or automation. Experience with CNC data generation and fabrication automation. Familiarity with Trimble Connect or other model collaboration platforms. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other complementary CAD platforms. Experience with CAM software, nesting, material optimization, or CNC programming. Key Performance Expectations The successful candidate will be measured by the ability to consistently produce accurate, complete, and fabrication-ready Tekla models and drawings that move efficiently from Engineering through CAD/CAM and CNC manufacturing to final fabrication and assembly. The position should minimize:
Fabrication errors and rework CNC programming issues caused by inaccurate model data Missing or incorrect BOM information Drawing/model discrepancies Shop-floor interpretation Material waste Production delays caused by detailing errorsPay:
