Robot Programmer Lead BP Metals | Isanti, MN About the Role We are looking for an experienced Robot Programmer Lead to own programming, optimization, and technical leadership of our robotic welding systems. You will develop and refine robot programs, drive process improvements, support production, and mentor operators to deliver consistent, high-quality welds in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Program, edit, and optimize robotic welding cells (FANUC, ABB, Motoman, or similar) Create and maintain offline programs and simulation models Develop and refine welding parameters, torch paths, and fixture strategies for new and existing parts Lead troubleshooting of robot, welder, and peripheral issues to minimize downtime Train and mentor robot operators on proper setup, operation, and basic programming Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams on new part launches and process improvements Establish and maintain programming standards, documentation, and version control Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time, quality, and reliability Ensure all programming and operations meet safety, quality, and company standards Maintain a clean, organized work area and enforce 5S practices Requirements High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification in robotics, welding, or related field preferred 3+ years of hands-on experience programming industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, Motoman, or equivalent) Strong working knowledge of MIG welding processes and robotic welding applications Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings Experience with offline programming software and robot simulation tools Solid mechanical aptitude and systematic troubleshooting skills Ability to lead and train others in a manufacturing setting Comfortable working in a production environment with standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs Reliable attendance and strong safety focus Preferred Skills AWS Certified Welder or equivalent Experience with multiple robot brands and controllers Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methods Familiarity with weld quality standards (AWS, ISO) and inspection methods Experience integrating robots with fixtures, positioners, and manufacturing software What We Offer Competitive pay: $32 - $40 per hour (based on experience) Overtime opportunities Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance IRA Paid time off and holidays Training and advancement opportunities in robotics and automation
