Job Description
Job Summary An energy infrastructure and automation organization is hiring a Controls and Automation Engineer to oversee and support automated field assets. This role focuses on PLC, SCADA, networking, and dashboard development, working closely with engineering, operations, and field teams to ensure reliable, secure, and well-documented control systems across distributed and remote environments. Responsibilities Oversee and support control systems for automated field assets Configure, troubleshoot, and modify PLC and HMI applications in the field Develop and maintain HTML-based customer dashboard applications Program and maintain SCADA pages and controls using Ignition SCADA and GE iFix Develop PLC ladder logic using Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, and Node-RED Monitor and maintain network health, performance, and reliability Train field automation supervisors and maintain technical records and documentation Support engineering, procurement, and operations teams as required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Technology, or related field) or equivalent experience Minimum of 5 years of experience with instrumentation and automated control systems Proficiency in PLC ladder logic programming and troubleshooting using RSLogix 5000 and Siemens Step 7 Experience with 24V and 120V electrical systems Ability to accurately interpret P&ID drawings Strong knowledge of automation and device communication protocols including S7, TCP/IP, Modbus, HART, and MQTT Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, HTML, VB.NET, C#, and JavaScript Advanced networking skills, including architecture, security, and troubleshooting Strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems Mechanical understanding of electrical and mechanical systems Excellent written, verbal, and analytical communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in automation, systems, software, or process engineering Familiarity with IoT, edge computing, and modern instrumentation systems Experience with data analytics, SQL, and database architecture Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure Understanding of electromagnetic, RF, and cellular communication systems Proficiency with AutoCAD and productivity tools Experience supporting unconventional oil and gas engineering design projects Additional Information Willingness to travel, work outdoors, and stay overnight at remote job sites as needed
