Position Summary The CAM Programmer is responsible for creating, modifying, and optimizing CNC programs used to manufacture precision sheet metal components. This position works closely with Engineering, Production, Estimating, and Quality to ensure parts are programmed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with customer specifications. The CAM Programmer plays a critical role in maximizing machine utilization, minimizing material waste, and supporting on-time delivery. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Develop CNC programs for laser cutting, punch presses, combination laser/punch machines, press brakes, and other fabrication equipment using CAM software. Convert customer drawings, models, and engineering files into efficient manufacturing programs. Determine optimal nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and reduce scrap. Create tooling selections, cutting paths, bend sequences, and machine instructions. Verify programs through simulation and troubleshoot programming issues prior to production. Collaborate with Engineering to resolve design-for-manufacturability concerns. Work closely with Production to improve cycle times and manufacturing efficiencies. Support prototype development and new product introductions. Modify existing programs to improve quality, throughput, and machine performance. Maintain organized program files, revisions, and documentation. Ensure all programs comply with customer specifications and company quality standards. Assist operators with troubleshooting machine programming issues. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and waste reduction. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, CNC Programming, or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of 3 years of CAM programming experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Experience programming sheet metal fabrication equipment is strongly preferred. Knowledge of CNC laser, turret punch, combination machines, and press brakes. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications. Experience with CAD/CAM software such as: BOOST (TRUMPF) TruTops AP100 (AMADA) AutoCAD SolidWorks Inventor Similar manufacturing software Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience programming Amada and/or Trumpf equipment. BOOST and AP100 Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as JobBOSS. Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience. Knowledge of tooling optimization and nesting strategies. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Frequent use of computers and office equipment. Occasional walking through manufacturing areas. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Ability to distinguish colors and read detailed technical drawings. Work Environment Combination office and manufacturing floor environment. Frequent interaction with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Customer Service. Exposure to typical manufacturing noise, machinery, and shop conditions while on the production floor.
