Job Description

Role Focus Customer and field-service technical support, communications troubleshooting, data validation, and reporting. Position Summary NextWave Energy Monitoring is seeking a technically curious and customer-focused engineer to support PVPulse and TotalPulse customers, investigate monitoring and production issues, troubleshoot field communications, validate renewable-energy data, and coordinate solutions across internal and external technical teams. The position is well suited to an early-career professional with strong problem-solving and communication skills who wants to develop deeper expertise in solar monitoring, electrical metering, data acquisition, and connected energy systems. Core Responsibilities Customer technical support. Serve as a primary technical point of contact for customers, platform users, and field-service personnel through platform inquiries and tickets, phone calls, email, and other support channels. Respond promptly to questions involving monitoring, production, metering, equipment communications, and platform data; explain technical findings clearly. Case ownership and coordination. Triage incoming cases based on urgency and customer impact, investigate issues directly, and coordinate with other team members when specialized support is needed. Data analysis and troubleshooting. Monitor renewable-energy system data and identify abnormal, missing, delayed, or erroneous information. Analyze historical production and metering data, compare results with expected system behavior, and investigate discrepancies involving communications, configuration, scaling, calculations, or data quality. Equipment and communications support. Troubleshoot dataloggers, cellular modems, meters, inverters, trackers, weather stations, and other connected devices. Support device-to-datalogger communications, Modbus and RS-485 configurations, TCP/IP connectivity, monitoring-platform device configuration, and data mapping. Field service and reactive-call support. Provide remote technical support for field communication issues and onsite reactive or service calls. Review diagnostic information, validate reported site conditions and completed work, help determine the appropriate next step, and confirm that data and communications are restored after service activity. Customer and REC reporting. Prepare, review, and deliver assigned customer and renewable-energy certificate reports. Validate source data, investigate reporting exceptions, maintain reporting schedules, and coordinate corrections when data is incomplete or inconsistent. Root-cause investigation and escalation. Independently investigate customer-reported issues, document troubleshooting steps and findings, identify recurring patterns, and escalate complex problems with sufficient diagnostic information for Engineering, Product, Development, field personnel, or equipment vendors to act efficiently. Platform validation and quality support. Reproduce significant platform issues, help document and prioritize technical defects, validate important corrections, and review calculations, alarms, dashboards, reports, and customer-facing outputs when technical verification is required Cross-functional communication. Translate technical findings into clear customer updates and actionable internal work. Collaborate with Customer Success, Engineering, Product, Development, field personnel, and equipment vendors to resolve issues and improve product and support processes. Industry events and technical outreach. Support NextWave's presence at trade shows, conferences, and other industry events by assisting with product demonstrations, answering technical questions, and engaging customers and prospects. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, computer science, information systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong technical problem-solving, analytical, and root-cause investigation skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical customers. Basic understanding of electrical power and energy, including kW, kWh, AC and DC systems, or the ability to learn these concepts quickly. Ability to manage multiple customer issues, document findings clearly, collaborate across teams, and follow matters through resolution. Self-directed learning skills and comfort working with unfamiliar equipment, data, and software systems. Preferred Knowledge and Experience Photovoltaic system operation, irradiance, temperature and weather impacts, expected production, production losses, clipping, or curtailment. Electrical metering, current transformers, meter configuration, and validation of metering or production data. Modbus, RS-485, TCP/IP networking, cellular communications, dataloggers, or data acquisition systems. Technical customer support, field-service support, renewable-energy monitoring, or equipment troubleshooting. Coding or scripting, API integration and testing, data analysis, or experience working with ticketing and issuemanagement systems. Customer reporting, REC reporting, or recurring data-quality review. Training and Growth The successful candidate will receive training on NextWave's platforms, hardware, device integrations, communications, troubleshooting, and reporting processes. As proficiency develops, the role may expand into advanced troubleshooting, platform validation, systems engineering, product support, and customer-facing technical leadership.
