Job Purpose Statement :
The Computer Technician ensures the proper functioning of computer hardware, infrastructure, multimedia equipment, software, cloud-based services, and digital peripherals across Fairfield Public Schools. This role is essential in supporting over 2,000 users, students and staff, with varying levels of technology proficiency. The position requires excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, independent judgment, and the ability to travel between school sites as needed.
Supervision Received :
Receives general supervision from the Director of Information Technology or designee.
Essential Job Functions :
Hardware:
Diagnose and resolve network and local hardware issues; swap or replace components and install software as needed. Perform break/fix repairs on computer equipment including screens, motherboards, keyboards, and hinges. Troubleshoot and repair interactive boards, projectors, and other media devices. Coordinate and execute hardware rollouts; relocate workstations as necessary. Maintain accurate inventory records for all hardware assets. Manage printer consumables and order toner/supplies for a wide array of printers across district buildings. Troubleshoot and repair network infrastructure including switches, hubs, and network drops; run new cabling as needed. Managing and supporting district devices on the WiFi network. Set up projectors and computers for workshops and professional development sessions. Liaise with manufacturers to troubleshoot and facilitate returns on defective hardware or software.
Software:
Research, troubleshoot, and resolve software issues across multiple platforms; identify and address compatibility concerns. Ensure compliance with all software licensing requirements. Assist users with a broad range of software and SaaS applications. Maintain and organize the software library with appropriate backups. Support & service: Monitor the helpdesk ticketing system; assign, resolve, and escalate tickets as appropriate. Collaborate with central IT staff to ensure timely and efficient problem resolution. Partner with Technology Resource Teachers to address classroom and instructional technology issues. Enforce network security policies and ensure all users adhere to the district's network code of conduct.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
Required platform experience: Windows (all current versions) Chrome OS (Chromebook management) macOS Active Directory Printer management systems Windows Deployment Services Required skills: Cross-platform troubleshooting and problem-solving Installation and repair of computers, printers, and peripherals Networking fundamentals Office productivity applications Proficiency in written and spoken English Professional attributes: Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions Capacity to interpret varied technical documentation Preferred qualifications: Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school MCSE certification or equivalent Microsoft role-based certification Prior professional experience in a similar role Selection process: Candidates will be required to demonstrate relevant technical and interpersonal skills as part of the selection process prior to any offer of employment.
