An IT Specialist or Engineer provides information technology support for a business or organization. Coordinates installation, maintenance and upgrades of computer software and hardware. Maintains computer networks, monitors network security and provides database management. Manages communication with system users and vendors.
The IT Operations Specialist serves as a hybrid technical resource, balancing core infrastructure and network administration, and providing high-level (Tier 3) technical support and escalations from the Help Desk. This role is responsible for assisting with the implementation and maintenance of critical IT systems, acting as a technical backbone for the organization while ensuring enterprise-grade stability and security.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Administration (35%): Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Entra. Maintain and manage Microsoft SCCM for software deployment, patching, and system updates. Manage and maintain the enterprise imaging system and associated deployment processes. Administer and maintain Azure cloud services and Microsoft 365 ecosystems. Handle server-side lifecycle replacements and configuration management. Oversee backup operations and disaster recovery processes. Network Administration (35%): Administer core network equipment, including Cisco routers and switches. Manage and maintain Fortinet firewalls. Monitor network performance and uptime using industry-standard tools. Administer wireless infrastructure. Manage Carbon Black security solutions, including policy administration and exception management. Perform hardware patching and firmware updates for network infrastructure as needed. Provide ongoing support and maintenance for VPN infrastructure. Tier 3 IT Support Escalation (10%): Act as the primary escalation point for the most complex service desk issues. Diagnose and resolve critical system and network-related problems that cannot be addressed by frontline support. Assist with backup operations, disaster recovery processes, and documentation. Process Improvement & Automation (20%): Develop and implement PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks. Manage, develop, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across infrastructure, network, and automation domains. Create and maintain Visio network and infrastructure diagrams. Maintain accurate asset tracking for all network and infrastructure hardware. Build operational efficiencies to support the broader IT infrastructure team. Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma required. Associate's degree in Information Technology or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
Experience :
Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT infrastructure, network administration, and Tier 3 support. Demonstrated history of managing Windows Server environments, cloud services (Azure/M365), network equipment (Cisco/Fortinet), and complex server environments. Experience with PowerShell scripting. Experience with Python scripting preferred. Experience with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Zabbix, etc.). Preferred Certifications ITIL Foundation Certification.
Microsoft Certified:
Azure Administrator Associate or equivalent Microsoft system certification. CompTIA Network+, Security+, or Cisco
CCT/CCNA.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Infrastructure & Networking:
Intermediate experience with Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra, Cisco routing/switching, Fortinet firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
Cloud & Systems Management:
Proficiency in Azure/M365, SCCM, and enterprise-level software deployment and patching.
ITSM & Security:
Strong ITIL knowledge for service delivery and incident resolution; experience managing Carbon Black policies and exceptions.
Automation & Documentation:
Skilled in PowerShell scripting, creating Visio network diagrams, and maintaining technical SOPs.
Monitoring & Support:
Experience with tools like SolarWinds/Zabbix; advanced Tier 3 troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
Professional Core:
Strong customer service, communication, and collaboration skills. Adaptable to changing priorities, highly attentive to detail, possesses strong problem-solving skills, and is capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
