Job Description
West Ada School District Field Support Technician Purpose Provides technical support for computer, designated technology equipment, and information systems in assigned schools; provides technical assistance; performs related work as required. Performance Responsibilities The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of technical tasks in the operation and maintenance of computer, technology equipment and information technology systems in assigned sites and schools. The work is performed under the supervision of the Information Systems Supervisor and Director, with latitude granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The primary duties of this class are performed in a general office and classroom environment. Driving to and from various district locations is also required. Essential Duties Respond to Help Desk requests involving hardware and software issues; Responsible for maintaining PC and software inventory at assigned locations; Responsible for the maintenance of images used to roll-out new PCs; Delivery, removal, and maintenance of PCs and related peripherals; Provides technical support for computer and information technology systems in assigned schools and sites including but not limited to, operating, maintaining, servicing, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and evaluating systems, hardware and software; Provides technical assistance to system users; Work with senior support staff to maintain network servers and infrastructure; Ensures workstations related systems, hardware, software applications and programs are functioning properly; Administers network information and structure, including user and software application settings; Configures and maintains system infrastructure; Installs and configures new system equipment, hardware, software, and printers; Troubleshoots system and user problems and performs repairs and modifications; Administers user access by adding, modifying or deleting user access as needed; Analyzes school needs and user requests for hardware or software changes, bug fixes, system enhancements and new programs; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices. Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
Replacement and testing, PC hardware, video cards, memory, hard drives, etc; Personal computer hardware and software, operating systems, networking and server systems, and related systems; Installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of operating systems, networks and programs on personal computers; System administration, user configuration, application and printer management; Data and Operating system theory and design.Ability to:
Follow written and oral instructions; Analyze complex computer systems, identify problems and develop and implement logical conclusions and effective solutions; Develop and recommend cost effective technical system improvements; Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Operate a personal computer and using program applications appropriate to assigned duties; Operate standard office equipment; Operate a motor vehicle; Communicate effectively and establish working relationships with users, other employees, administrators, and the public; Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and complete tasks in a timely manner; Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks; Demonstrate organizational and customer service skills. Qualifications College degree is preferred, however appropriate experience will be considered Prior payroll experience Knowledge of payroll accounting procedures Knowledge of principles and practices of school business office management, equipment and procedures Knowledge of District regulations, procedures and services and the ability to acquire them with minimum supervision Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to payroll Ability to keep complex records, to assemble data and to prepare such data Ability to Work independently on confidential assignments Ability to work with a computer; knowledge of SunGard's Business Plus helpful, but not required Ability to deal courteously and effectively with staff Superior oral and written communication skills Acceptable Experience and Training High school diploma or GED equivalency; and Experience administering computer network systems; Relevant current industry desktop and/or networking certifications. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Valid Idaho Driver's License Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, use a telephone, and communicate with other employees and the public; Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review and prepare documents and file them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a personal computer and other standard office equipment; Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work at a keyboard for an extended period of time, move up to 50 pounds and work in an office environment and perform standard office functions.
