Multiple Lab IT Support Engineers Required-Northville, Michigan The Lab IT Support Engineer is responsible for maintaining and supporting laboratory IT infrastructure, test equipment, software applications, databases, and network services. The role ensures the reliable operation of laboratory systems, minimizes downtime, and provides technical support to engineers, researchers, and laboratory personnel. Key Responsibilities 1. Computer and Test Equipment Support Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory computers and IT equipment. Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and hardware-software interface issues. Coordinate with vendors for equipment repairs, replacements, and technical support. 2. Software and License Management Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain software applications. Manage software licenses and ensure compliance with licensing requirements. Support operating system patches, updates, and security fixes. Validate software functionality following upgrades and updates. 3. Hardware Maintenance and Upgrades Troubleshoot workstations, servers, peripherals, and test equipment interfaces. Perform hardware upgrades and component replacements for desktop computers and related equipment. Maintain accurate hardware inventory and lifecycle records. 4. Database Support Support laboratory databases and data management systems. Assist users with database access, backup, and restoration activities. Coordinate with database administrators to resolve complex issues. 5. Network and Access Management Troubleshoot network connectivity and communication issues. Manage user permissions and access controls. Support LAN/WAN connectivity for laboratory systems. Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to resolve network incidents. 6. Security and Application Whitelisting Manage application whitelisting requests and approvals. Ensure compliance with organizational cybersecurity policies. Validate software before deployment in laboratory environments. 7. Windows Systems Administration Implement Windows operating system upgrades and patches. Maintain system security, stability, and performance. Support Windows migration and upgrade projects. 8. Imaging, Backup, and Recovery Create, maintain, and deploy workstation images. Perform system backup and restoration activities. Support disaster recovery and system recovery processes. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related field. 2-6 years of IT support experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, or enterprise environment.
Strong knowledge of:
Windows operating system administration. PC hardware troubleshooting. Network troubleshooting, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP. Software installation, configuration, and maintenance. Backup and recovery tools. Active Directory and user access management. Endpoint security and application whitelisting. Technical documentation. Problem-solving and root cause analysis. Preferred Skills Experience supporting engineering, R&D, or testing laboratories. Basic knowledge of database administration. Experience with imaging tools such as SCCM, MDT, or Clonezilla. Knowledge of software license management. Understanding of cybersecurity best practices. Knowledge of ITIL service management principles. Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or ITIL, are desirable.
