Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Rhinebeck Central School District announces a vacancy for a full-time Microcomputer Technician (HELP) 12-month position to help serve the district's students and staff. This position will provide installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting microcomputer systems and peripherals. This role will provide end-user support in the use of technology and associated applications as needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
The following is indicative of the level and types of activities performed by incumbents in this title. It is no meant to be all-inclusive and does not preclude a supervisor from assigning activities not listed that could reasonably be expected to be performed by an employee in this title. Install, configure, and upgrade microcomputer hardware and software systems for Apple, Chrome and Windows environments. Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal performance and functionality of microcomputer systems. Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues related to microcomputers and peripherals. Provide technical support and guidance to end-users on the use of microcomputer systems, software applications, and peripherals. Collaborate with IT teams to implement security protocols, updates, and software applications for microcomputer systems. Maintain accurate records of repairs, installations, and configurations for documentation purposes. Troubleshoots and repairs hardware and software issues. Assists staff in resolving problems on the various software packages. Works closely with others in the installation and maintenance of the computer network and active directory management. Maintains accurate inventory of hardware and software in the district. Encourages and works towards developing communication with other participating sources. Performs regularly schedule preventative maintenance on internal and off-site computer equipment. Keeps abreast of changes in technology and in the microcomputer field, and maintains a library of knowledge base manuals. Requires occasional night or weekend tasks. Others duties as assigned.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of supporting a variety of technologies consisting of Mac devices, Windows PCs, Active Directory, and Network infrastructure. This candidate must have a passion to learn quickly as technology evolves. One would need a high level of clear, effective, positive, and instructional communication skills both verbally and in writing. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Required, must meet
EITHER:
(A) Associate degree in electrical technology, information technology, computer science, or a closely related field;
OR:
(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of work experience in the repair and maintenance of microcomputer systems;
OR:
(C) An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience within the limits of (A) and (B) above.
NOTE :
Courses in technical computer repair can be substituted for work experience. One course is equivalent to 6 months work experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
: Possession of a valid Driver License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at time of application and to maintain the position.
