JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to function as a technical specialist on issues reling to the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integrion in the network. The work involves network administrion, optimizion and performance in support of the supports the ste's wide area command and control integred network.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
This is an excepted position th requires membership in a compible military assignment in the Connecticut Army Nional Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs a variety of network device configurion and connectivity tasks. Executes procedures and coordines corrective action to optimize network performance. Installs, configures and monitors tested and evalued software packages th provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN. Implements the standard configurion software loads for all network devices. Utilizes benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluion da to manage network servers and da communicion devices to support normal and surge workload. Works with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems. Uses remote management software tools to maintain and upde configurion, protocol and user/system files. Documents and tracks change to configurion, protocol and user/system files. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Nional Guard Membership is required. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigion. Must meet Compible Military Assignment within one year from placement. Wear of the military uniform is mandory. Direct Deposit is mandory. GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Experience, educion or training th has provided a basic knowledge of da processing functions and general management principles th enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to autome a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operor or assistant, computer sales representive, program analyst, or other positions th required the use or adaption of computer programs and systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Experience th required adaptions of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documention on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the merial and organizing it in a logical fashion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the transmission, storage, and retrieval of informion in voice, da and/or video forms, informion processing methodology, computer capabilities, processing techniques, and informion security techniques in a tactical and fixed opering environment. Knowledge of communicions systems and network systems technology and operions, sufficient to design, plan, manage, install, integre, test, maintain, and/or execute tele-communicions and network systems, services, or operions needed to sisfy the mission requirements. Knowledge of how the network and communicion systems interacts with and affects the over all weapons system. Knowledge of a wide range of IT concepts, principles, methods and practices to plan and provide network services th support mission requirements. Knowledge of a wide variety of communicions systems, technology, and operions, as well as methods, procedures, regulions and other guides th rele to a particular area. Knowledge of the Spectrum Management Program policies and requirements to include use of automed spectrum management software tools. Knowledge of a wide range of informion technology methods, techniques, and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of the capabilities and limitions of software, utility programs, network management systems and programming aids as they apply to Local and Wide Area Networks with multiple opering system client server configurions. Knowledge and skill in applying DOD, AF, and NGB policies, standards, directives, and operions manuals to perform systems analysis, evalue approaches, offer advice, define alternive approaches, and coordine requirements regarding the merits of proposed applicions, design changes, etc. Knowledge of systems documention, configurion, management, dabase administrion, and capabilities reled to informion systems, client server applicions, testing, integrion, and cost analysis. Knowledge of a wide range of systems analysis and design techniques including da and process modeling, alternive design approaches, configurion management, and computer equipment requirements reled to networks. Ability to carry out studies to advise on the merits of proposed applicions, designs, and design changes to modify and adapt precedent solutions. Skill in evaluing innovive approaches in formulion of programs or systems specificions. Ability to identify needed system modificions, advise on alternive approaches, and tolere all aspects of a project to fulfill a broad range of network and user requirements. Ability to apply innovive approaches in the formulion of solutions involving programming or systems specificions. Knowledge of the overall system, network, and communicion architecture and overall project scope to evalue new systems to be integred or converted so they work with in current or proposed architecture and provide alternives, costs, training concerns, and recommendions for conversion and/or integrion. Knowledge of hardware, software, network operions functions, packet switching communicions protocols, and diagnostic tools to gher and analyze difficult and complex system and end user problems, furnish assistance, and provide a resolution. Knowledge of the mission, objectives, terminology, and management practices in the organizion to recognize probable areas of interaction and overlap between proposed and existing systems. Knowledge of a wide range of communicions and computer security, techniques, requirements, methods, sources, and procedures. Knowledge of the AFEKMS program and reled hardware and software.

This position requires a security clearance (Secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
This position is covered under the Informion Assurance Workforce Improvement Program and requires Informion Assurance (IA) Technical Level II Certificion. IA Baseline Certificion is required within 6 months of assignment to the position. Employee required to maintain certificion stus and complete continuous educion or sustainment training as required by certificion. Failure to receive the proper IA certificion may results in removal from this position.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
Training the Nional Guard Professional Educion Center (NGPEC) is a mandory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or terminion of full-time employment unless extenuing circumstances preclude course tendance.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level gradue educion leading to such a degree. (Degree in computer science, engineering, informion science, informion systems management, mhemics, operions research, stistics, or technology management or degree th provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaption of applicions, systems or networks).
