Bend, Oregon About Arclight Dynamics Arclight Dynamics is a leading U.S. manufacturer of industrial CNC plasma cutting systems used by fabrication shops, manufacturers, contractors, educational facilities, and production environments throughout the United States and internationally. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Bend, Oregon, we design, manufacture, assemble, and support CNC cutting machinery built for demanding real-world fabrication applications. We are growing and seeking a mechanically and electrically capable CNC Technical Support Specialist to join our in-house technical service team. This is an industrial machinery technical support position, not an IT helpdesk, network administration, or general computer support role. Successful candidates will have hands-on mechanical and/or electrical aptitude and an interest in troubleshooting CNC machinery, plasma cutting equipment, motion-control systems, and related industrial equipment. What You'll Do As a CNC Technical Support Specialist, you will help customers diagnose, maintain, operate, and repair CNC plasma cutting machinery and associated industrial equipment .
Responsibilities include:
Provide remote technical support for Arclight Dynamics CNC plasma cutting systems by phone, email, remote diagnostics, and other support tools. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, motion-control, plasma-cutting, and CNC software-related issues . Diagnose machine systems including motors, drives, switches, relays, sensors, wiring, power supplies, fuses, control components, and related electrical hardware. Assist customers with diagnosing mechanical issues involving linear motion systems, gearboxes, bearings, gantry assemblies, drive components, torch assemblies, and machine alignment. Guide customers through machine installation, startup, calibration, testing, preventive maintenance, and proper operating procedures. Assist with troubleshooting plasma cutting performance, cut quality, consumables, torch height control, grounding, electrical interference, and related process issues. Help customers identify failed components and determine appropriate repair or replacement procedures. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and machine documentation . Walk customers through electrical testing procedures using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment. Support CNC controllers, CAD/CAM software, machine interfaces, and related software as they directly relate to machine operation and troubleshooting. Document service cases, troubleshooting procedures, machine history, and resolutions within our CRM/ERP systems. Coordinate replacement parts, warranty claims, service components, and repair requirements. Work closely with Engineering, Production, Sales, and Field Service personnel to resolve complex machine issues. Participate in ongoing hands-on training involving CNC tables, plasma power supplies, controllers, electrical systems, mechanical assemblies, and fabrication processes. Travel to customer facilities for machine training, troubleshooting, repair, installation support, or field service assignments once appropriately trained. Occasional Travel for Trade or Industry Specific Shows. What We're Looking For We are looking for candidates who are comfortable working on machinery and solving mechanical and electrical problems . Ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas: Industrial machinery service or maintenance CNC machinery Plasma cutting equipment Welding or metal fabrication equipment Industrial electrical systems Manufacturing equipment Machine tool repair Mechatronics Automation or motion-control equipment Field service Equipment maintenance Automotive, diesel, agricultural, or heavy-equipment repair Military mechanical, electrical, avionics, or electronics experience Required Skills & Aptitude Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude . Comfortable working with hand tools and performing hands-on machine troubleshooting. Ability to safely use a digital multimeter to perform basic electrical diagnostics. Working knowledge of electrical components such as: Switches and relays Sensors and limit switches Motors and motor controls Fuses and circuit protection Power supplies Wiring and connectors Basic control circuits Ability or willingness to learn how to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation . Strong diagnostic and logical troubleshooting skills. Ability to communicate technical procedures clearly to customers who may have varying levels of mechanical experience. Ability to troubleshoot equipment remotely by asking effective diagnostic questions and systematically isolating potential failures. Comfortable learning CNC controls, plasma cutting technology, CAD/CAM workflows, and industrial machine systems. Advanced computer proficiency, including Windows-based systems, email, CRM/ERP applications, and technical documentation. Strong personal accountability and ability to manage multiple open technical cases. Self-motivated with the ability to use available time productively for technical training and continued machine education. Willingness to continually expand knowledge of Arclight Dynamics equipment and related industrial technologies. Preferred Experience Experience with any of the following is beneficial but not necessarily required: CNC plasma tables CNC routers, mills, lathes, lasers, or other machine tools Hypertherm or similar plasma cutting systems CNC motion controls Stepper or servo motors Motor drives and control electronics Torch Height Control systems CAD/CAM and nesting software SheetCAM or similar CAM software Welding and metal fabrication Industrial automation Electrical troubleshooting Mechanical assembly Machine installation and commissioning Industrial equipment field service Candidates with strong backgrounds in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, electrical, mechatronics, welding, fabrication, or military technical occupations are encouraged to apply even if they have not previously worked specifically with CNC plasma equipment. Field Service & Travel Opportunities This position is primarily based at our Bend, Oregon facility , where technicians receive extensive hands-on training with our equipment. Once fully trained and qualified, Technical Support Specialists may travel to customer facilities for: Machine troubleshooting and repair Equipment installation and commissioning Preventive maintenance Customer operator training Electrical and mechanical diagnostics Machine upgrades and retrofits Employees who demonstrate strong technical competency and an aptitude for customer-facing field work may have opportunities to advance into dedicated Field Service Technician positions. Advanced Field Service positions may require approximately 50-75% travel , including travel throughout North America and occasional international assignments. Who Will Be Successful in This Role? This position is a strong fit for someone who likes to understand how machines work, diagnose why they aren't working, and figure out how to fix them . You may be a good fit if you are the person who naturally reaches for a multimeter, schematic, service manual, or toolbox when equipment stops working. We can teach the specifics of our CNC plasma systems. We are looking for candidates who bring the mechanical curiosity, electrical aptitude, troubleshooting discipline, work ethic, and willingness to learn required to become an expert on industrial CNC cutting equipment. If your background is primarily IT support, network administration, desktop support, software development, or computer repair without hands-on mechanical or industrial electrical experience, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.
