PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Technology Specialist - Service Desk performs foundational level one (basic) technical support for software, hardware, and network issues for all district students and staff within a call center environment. As the first point of contact for technology support, this role diagnoses problems, guides users through step-by-step solutions, and clearly communicates technical information in a user-friendly, professional manner. The Technology Specialist - Service Desk works closely with campus-based Technology Specialists I and II to escalate and resolve issues in a timely manner, and is expected to embody the district's mission and goals through professional conduct.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
o Technology Support o Identify, diagnose, and resolve computer hardware, software, and network problems for endusers in a call center environment; communicate solutions clearly in a user-friendly, professional manner. o Provide one-on-one, end-user problem resolution over the phone for district-approved software and hardware. o Utilize district remote support and screen-sharing tools to initially diagnose and attempt resolution for software and system issues prior to dispatching on-site field technicians. o Diagnose and resolve end-user network problems related to printers, email, Internet, network access, etc. o Leverage the district service request system to receive work; log all required information into service desk tickets, and manage the prioritization of work orders according to policy. o Determine the responsible group for service desk tickets, and assign or escalate to the appropriate Technology Specialist I, Technology Specialist II, or Systems and Network Operations team as needed to provide timely resolution. o Provide one-on-one end-user training over the phone as needed. o Assist with the repair and configuration of end-user desktop hardware, software, and peripherals at the Technology office as time permits. o Coordinate timely repair of computer equipment under third-party maintenance agreements by preparing equipment for depot repair or overseeing on-site repair by a certified vendor technician. o May assist campus-based Technology Specialists on-site with imaging, inventory, and other projects as needed. o Collaboration, Teamwork, and Liaison Support o Act as a liaison between end-users, Technology Specialists I and II, and district administration. o Communicate technical issues and resolutions proactively with campus and district-level technology staff to foster a collaborative and productive culture. o Assist technology department personnel with creating and maintaining materials for end-user frequently asked questions (FAQs) and self-service guides. o Maintain positive and professional relationships and work collaboratively with all district departments to support learning and business solutions. o Policy, Reports and Law o Assist in the development of policies and procedures regarding technology issues. o Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. o Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of technology. o Budget and Inventory o Assist with the selection of technology equipment and software. o Assist with the regular maintenance of the inventory database for all hardware and software in the district. o Assist with maintaining accurate inventory information for all technology equipment. o Professional Growth and Development o Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. o Attend all training sessions and staff meetings necessary to perform service desk duties successfully. o Collaborate with the technology team to refine user-facing support resources, including FAQs and self-service guides, to enhance district-wide technical literacy. o Safety o Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. o Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. o Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately. o Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. o Other o Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed, sometimes with little advance notice. o Maintain confidentiality of all information. o Complete all other duties as assigned.
