Desktop Support Technician I

Location:

San Antonio, TX 78215

Duration:

2 YR Contract

Pay Rate:

$23.00 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a Desktop Support Technician I to provide Tier 1 technical support for desktop and laptop computers. This role is responsible for troubleshooting hardware and software issues, configuring new equipment, supporting end users, and ensuring a high level of customer service. The ideal candidate will have hands-on desktop support experience, strong problem-solving abilities, and a solid foundation in Microsoft technologies and basic networking concepts.

Key Responsibilities

Desktop Support & Troubleshooting

Provide Tier 1 support for desktop computers, laptops, and peripheral devices.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues.

Install, configure, maintain, and support computer hardware and operating systems.

Configure and deploy new hardware, including desktops, laptops, monitors, and peripherals.

Relocate and set up computer equipment as needed.

End User Support

Deliver exceptional customer service and technical assistance to end users.

Provide basic user training on supported hardware, software, and productivity tools.

Communicate effectively with users at all levels of the organization.

Documentation & Process Improvement

Accurately document all support activities, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions within the ticketing system.

Create and maintain troubleshooting guides, installation procedures, and technical documentation.

Research and recommend alternative solutions when new technical issues are encountered.

Continuously develop technical knowledge through independent learning and research.

Required Qualifications

Education or Experience

Associate degree in Computer Maintenance Technology, Computer Help Desk Support, Computer Network Administration, or a related field;

OR

Equivalent hands-on experience in an IT technical support environment.

Technical Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate experience and proficiency in the following areas:

Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of desktop and laptop computers.

Microsoft Office Suite, including:

Word

Excel

PowerPoint

Visio

Project

Basic PC networking concepts and terminology.

Windows Active Directory administration and support.

Printer setup, support, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Support and configuration of LCD projectors, monitors, and display devices.

General hardware and peripheral support.

Professional Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Ability to build effective working relationships with users and support teams.

Ability to prioritize workload and meet established goals and objectives.

Demonstrated ability to make sound recommendations and independent decisions.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, email, calendaring, and productivity tools.

Adaptability and willingness to support changing technologies, business processes, and organizational initiatives.

Ability to work rotating schedules as needed to support business operations.

Ability to distinguish colors for identifying electronic components and wiring.

Preferred Qualifications

Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent.

Experience supporting construction, maintenance, field operations, or utility-related environments.
