Description We are seeking a Power Control Systems Engineer to help design and evolve new power control systems across multiple product features. You will be responsible for evolving the power control architecture deployed across Apple products to extend battery life and improve user experience while meeting device power and thermal constraints across multiple timescales. This work involves collecting and analyzing performance/power data from real-world workloads, applying and extending control theory and estimation techniques

  • to novel system problems, driving data-driven and predictive approaches to power allocation, cooperating with systems and software teams to characterize and analyze power/performance profiles, and evaluating power control algorithms based on the resulting insights.
","responsibilities":"Design, implement, and evolve power control algorithms across multiple product features and platforms Independently investigate performance/power data from real-world workloads to identify architecture and algorithm improvements Apply and extend control theory and estimation techniques, including multi-timescale constraint handling, to novel system problems Lead cross-functional characterization of power/performance profiles with systems and software teams Prototype and evaluate data-driven and predictive approaches to power allocation Debug and resolve complex power control issues across simulation, bench, and field environments Mentor junior engineers on control system design and debug practices Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent 10+ years of relevant industry experience Experience implementing control systems in embedded microcontroller environments Experience applying data-driven or machine-learning approaches to power allocation, predictive analytics, or constraint prediction Experience with multi-timescale or hierarchical constraint-handling techniques in real-time control systems Innovative and critical system-level thinker with control system design and debug skills Desire to bring data-driven decision-making and analytics to improve our products Professional and collaborative with interpersonal communication skills Minimum Qualifications BS degree Experience with one or more of the following programing languages: MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Bash, or Python Experience with control system design in one or more of the following areas: Classical Control Theory, Modern Control Theory, System Identification, Estimation Theory, Signal Processing, or multi-timescale constraint handling Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
